Jerry Jones receives an interesting proposal: “Troy Aikman and Tony Romo have to return to the Cowboys”

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has presented Jerry Jones with an intriguing idea, and that is to bring franchise legends Troy Aikman and Tony Romo back into the organization.

Bryant , who made three Pro Bowls during his Cowboys career, shared his thoughts on X on October 5, writing that Aikman and Romo “need to be part of the Cowboys organization.”

His suggestion comes at an interesting time, with both former Dallas quarterbacks facing uncertainty surrounding their broadcasting futures.

Aikman remains one of the most accomplished players in Cowboys history. The Hall of Fame quarterback spent his entire 12-year NFL career in Dallas and guided the franchise to three Super Bowl victories during the 1990s. After retiring in 2001, he quickly moved into broadcasting, first with Fox before later becoming a prominent voice on ESPN.

Romo followed a similar path after ending his playing career in 2017. The four-time Pro Bowler spent all 14 of his NFL seasons with Dallas before becoming CBS Sports’ lead NFL analyst.

His nine-year run alongside Jim Nantz established him as one of the most recognizable voices in football broadcasting.

However, Romo’s broadcasting chapter has now ended. CBS Sports announced on October 2 that it had mutually agreed to part ways with the former quarterback following his leave of absence. J.J. Watt has taken over alongside Nantz and Tracy Wolfson for the remainder of the season.

Could Aikman and Romo return to Dallas?

Bryant’s proposal also arrives as Aikman has become increasingly vocal about the Cowboys’ lack of postseason success. Dallas hasn’t reached the NFC Championship Game since Aikman helped win Super Bowl XXX following the 1995 season.

Aikman recently described that prolonged drought as difficult to comprehend and said Cowboys supporters deserve better.

“Cowboys fans deserve better,” Aikman said. “I do know that. This is the Cowboys, the flagship franchise, and the fact that the Cowboys in 30 years have not made it to a championship game, let along a Super Bowl, it’s hard to fathom.”

The former quarterback also pointed toward the organization’s structure when discussing the team’s struggles. He argued that Jones ’ continued role as general manager deserves examination, particularly because the Cowboys haven’t found sustained postseason success since their championship era.

“To me, you have to make changes in how you’re doing it, if for three decades you haven’t made an NFC Championship Game,” Aikman said. “It’s just unacceptable.”

That perspective makes Bryant’s idea especially interesting. Aikman could potentially bring his experience to an advisory or football operations role, while Romo could offer insight shaped by both his playing career and nearly a decade analyzing the league from the broadcast booth.

There’s no indication that either quarterback is actually being considered for a Cowboys position. Still, Romo is now free from CBS, while Aikman’s future with ESPN could become a bigger talking point as his contract situation develops.
