Jerry Jones receives trade deadline advice: He can’t afford mistakes with these Cowboys

After crushing the Eagles, the Cowboys sparked a new debate: Is Dallas’ roster fine and is coaching the real issue?

The Dallas Cowboys finally found some answers after an inconsistent start to the season. Their dominant road victory over the Philadelphia Eagles improved their record to 3-4 and, more importantly, marked the first time this year that both the offense and defense performed at a high level in the same game.

The win even convinced some analysts that Dallas does not need to make major moves before the trade deadline and that the biggest issue is not the talent on the roster.

“The players are fine. They need coaching upgrades… I will argue all day: It's not talent,” said FS1 sports media personality Colin Cowherd, according to Herd w/ Colin Cowherd on X .

Colin Cowherd believes Cowboys' biggest issue isn't the roster

Cowherd’s stance comes amid the ongoing debate over whether the Cowboys need to improve their roster, especially on defense, to become a legitimate contender this season. Dallas’ defensive unit got off to a concerning start , including a disappointing performance against the New York Giants , and has shown several consistency issues in the weeks since.

While the win over Philadelphia was a major boost, it is also worth noting that the Eagles entered the matchup without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts and several other key players, leading some to believe it was not a definitive test of Dallas’ true potential.

Still, the performance convinced Cowherd that a large portion of the Cowboys’ struggles are tied to the work of head coach Brian Schottenheimer , rather than a lack of talent on the roster.

For the analyst, Dallas has the necessary pieces in place, but the coaching staff must find a way to maximize the team’s potential.

Now, the Cowboys will look to prove their turnaround is real when they host the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday . Arizona shocked Dallas in a late-season matchup last year. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET in Arlington.
