Michael Irvin defends Dak Prescott by calling for everyone at ESPN to be fired
Irvin delivered a fiery response after ESPN’s panel questioned Prescott’s standing against Jameis Winston

Dak Prescott has spent much of his NFL career under a microscope, with every strong stretch and every setback feeding another round of debate about where he belongs among the league’s top quarterbacks.
Michael Irvin believes some of that criticism has become unreasonable. During a discussion on First Take, Irvin reacted sharply after the panel entertained the idea that Jameis Winston could be better than Prescott .
“You all are telling me out of your mouths, you all going to let your bodies formulate the words that come over your tongue and out your lips that you expect Jameis Winston to be better than Dak Prescott,” Irvin said. “Stop this show right now. Get rid of all of y’all right now.”
The Hall of Famer made clear that his reaction wasn't meant as a personal shot at Winston . “I’m taking Dak Prescott every time,” Irvin said.
Prescott’s current form central to Irvin’s argument
Irvin ’s defense comes with Prescott playing some of his best football of the season.
Through four games, the 33-year-old has completed 105 of 150 passes for 1,065 yards, eight touchdowns and only one interception. He ranks third in the NFL in both completions and touchdown passes.
Prescott completed 32 of 45 passes for 335 yards and a touchdown in Dallas’ 34-30 comeback victory over Houston, then led the decisive 74-yard drive that ended with a touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb with 40 seconds remaining.
He did it while dealing with swelling in his throwing hand after it was stepped on during the game.
Prescott ’s career numbers also give Irvin plenty to point toward. He has thrown for 37,054 yards and 251 touchdowns, compared with Winston ’s 25,271 yards and 159 touchdowns.
Winston still given Giants timely lift
The comparison has gained traction because Winston has played well since taking over for Jaxson Dart , who suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Winston is 2-0 as New York’s starter, helping the Giants stabilize their season and move to 3-1.
He and Prescott also share a connection that goes back to their college days, when they were roommates at the Peyton Manning Passing Academy.
Winston has publicly supported Prescott in the years since. Still, Irvin’s broader point was about how quickly Prescott’s accomplishments can get dismissed.
Dallas may be only 2-2, but the Cowboys have scored the second-most points in the NFL, and Prescott has been one of the main reasons why.
The debate will continue as both teams move deeper into the season. Irvin, however, has already made his position impossible to misunderstand.
