Lions provide positive preliminary signs for Jack Campbell as coach leads team in prayer after scary injury
The Lions confirm positive preliminary signs after Campbell was rushed to hospital following a frightening collision with T.J. Hockenson

Detroit Lions fans received an encouraging update on Jack Campbell after the linebacker was hospitalized following a frightening injury against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
The team confirmed Monday that Campbell remains at a local hospital, where he is resting and recovering. Its statement offered a cautiously positive assessment, saying preliminary indications were positive, but added that no further details would be shared out of respect for the player and his family.
Head coach Dan Campbell reinforced that message during his weekly media availability, asking supporters to continue praying for the injured linebacker.
“On Jack, I know that there was a release we put out. It's positive. So, your prayers are working. Please continue to do that. But it is positive news on Jack,” said Campbell .
“I got to see him last night. It was good. It was positive. You know, I got to see his parents [and] talk to his wife. Everybody is in good spirits.”
The injury happened early in the fourth quarter of Detroit’s 19-15 victory over Minnesota. Campbell was attempting to make a tackle on Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson when his head appeared to make contact with the opponent's hip. He subsequently fell face down and remained motionless on the Ford Field turf.
Medical personnel rushed to his assistance before securing him to a backboard and transporting him from the stadium by medical cart. He was subsequently taken to hospital for further evaluation, where he remained overnight.
Lions rally around their injured teammate
The frightening incident brought the game to a halt and prompted players from both teams to take a knee around Campbell as medical staff treated him. Several Lions approached the cart before he was taken away, while Ford Field fell silent.
The emotional impact continued in the locker room. Dan Campbell gathered his players and led them in prayer, acknowledging that the team had no additional information about the linebacker's condition.
Footage released by Detroit showed the coach visibly emotional as he encouraged everyone to keep Jack in their thoughts and prayers.
Quarterback Jared Goff subsequently addressed his teammates, urging them to remain united, lean on one another and continue supporting their injured teammate. Defensive star Aidan Hutchinson also helped rally the Lions before play resumed, despite appearing deeply affected by the incident.
Detroit eventually completed its comeback, but the result was secondary for many players. Linebacker Derrick Barnes explained that his immediate concern was Campbell as a person, particularly given that he has a wife and young child.
Campbell , 26, was selected 18th overall by Detroit in the 2023 NFL Draft after playing college football at Iowa. He enjoyed an outstanding 2025 campaign, earning All-Pro recognition after recording more than 150 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles.
The Lions subsequently demonstrated their confidence in the linebacker by signing him to a four-year contract extension worth $81 million, keeping him under contract through the 2030 season.
Away from football, Campbell and his wife, Megan , also welcomed their first child, a son named Cooper , in February.
Monday's update offers reason for cautious optimism, although the Lions haven't disclosed a diagnosis, test results or a recovery timeline.
