Miles Sanders is facing fresh uncertainty over his NFL future after details emerged of a DUI arrest in Pennsylvania earlier this summer.

The 29-year-old running back, who remains unsigned ahead of the 2026 regular season, was arrested on June 8 in Churchill Borough, near Pittsburgh.

Court records reportedly show Sanders was charged last week with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, along with careless driving.

The timing could prove particularly damaging for Sanders , who is attempting to find another NFL opportunity after spending the 2025 season with the Dallas Cowboys .

Police reportedly found Sanders slumped behind wheel

According to police, Sanders was discovered inside a vehicle that had stopped in the middle of the road.

Officers reportedly described the former Philadelphia Eagles player as being "in and out of consciousness" while slumped in the driver's seat.

Police further alleged that Sanders smelled strongly of alcohol and performed poorly during a field sobriety test.

Authorities claim Sanders acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier in the day before a breath test produced a positive result. Police also said marijuana was discovered inside the vehicle.

Sanders has not publicly addressed the allegations himself.

His attorney Phil DiLucente told CBS Pittsburgh: "This is a private matter that has not even reached the preliminary hearing stage and there will be no further comment."

Miles Sanders already fighting for NFL future

The arrest comes at a delicate point in Sanders ' career, with the running back currently without a team and the new NFL season only weeks away.

Sanders entered the league when the Eagles selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft after his college career at Penn State.

He spent four seasons in Philadelphia before joining the Carolina Panthers , where he played for two years. Sanders then moved to Dallas for the 2025 campaign.

Now a free agent at 29, any off-field concerns could potentially complicate his efforts to secure another contract as teams finalize their rosters.

The legal process is also still at an early stage, meaning the allegations against Sanders haven't yet been tested at a preliminary hearing.

Sanders is scheduled to return to court on October 28 for that hearing.
