NFL faces backlash for discounting London Game tickets as early buyers feel ripped off

Tickets have fallen to as little as $105.

The NFL 's push to pack London 's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Sunday's Indianapolis Colts - Washington Commanders matchup has created an awkward problem: Supporters who bought tickets early are now watching the same seats being sold for dramatically less. The league has reportedly slashed prices on thousands of remaining tickets as it attempts to boost attendance for its latest London showcase on October 4 with some seats falling as high as £245 ($325) to £79 ($105).

It’s a reduction that has left early purchasers questioning the value of buying ahead despite the fact that the 62,000-seat venue has hosted 11 previous regular-season NFL games, and none recorded an official crowd below 60,000. That makes the current sales push particularly significant for a league that has made international expansion a central part of its growth strategy – especially as premium seats are among those affected by the reductions. Meanwhile upper-level tickets that originally cost £185 ($245) were first reduced to £115 ($152) and subsequently dropped to $105, and students are also being offered tickets at half price. The NFL 's dilemma is straightforward. Empty seats would be highly visible during one of its most important international events, yet the aggressive pricing strategy has sparked anger among some longtime UK supporters who committed to the event before the discounts appeared. “They don't care about the fans,” London -based Andy Burrows told the Associated Press. “As long as that place sells out and it looks good on TV, the NFL won't care about us. And I'm not alone. I speak to fans every day.”

Could a European team join the NFL?

The NFL London matchup launches a busy month for the sport in Europe , with the Jacksonville and Philadelphia Eagles scheduled to meet at Tottenham before the Jaguars faces the Houston Texans at Wembley on October 18. The expansion of the sport around the globe is not just limited to the UK, however, as the 2026 overseas NFL schedule has grown to include nine regular-season games outside the United States . Australia and Rio de Janeiro already host games and Paris is set to join the calendar later in October, proving clear success after London has effectively served as the NFL 's testing ground for international games. Teams have become accustomed to traveling and playing in the, giving the league a template it can apply elsewhere and that expansion has naturally prompted a bigger question: Could Europe eventually have its own NFL teams? Commissioner Roger Goodell has previously pointed to the value of playing in numerous international markets rather than concentrating games in only one or two countries. But a permanent European presence, potentially involving London , Germany , Spain and France , is a different part of the equation and nothing of that scale has been finalized, however. The priority remains growing the sport's audience and the ticket controversy demonstrates the fine balancing act facing the league: The NFL wants larger crowds and new supporters, but last-minute discounts risk frustrating the fans who helped build its overseas audience in the first place.
