Christian Watson injury update: Packers WR taken to hospital
Green Bay's biggest concern in Week 8 wasn't the scoreboard. Christian Watson left the game with a chest injury and was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

C hristian Watson raised alarm bells for the Green Bay Packers after suffering an apparent injury during the Week 8 game against the Carolina Panthers.
The wide receiver made a spectacular 53-yard catch while contesting a 50-50 ball with rookie cornerback Will Lee , but both players remained on the ground after the play.
Shortly afterward, the Packers confirmed that Watson had sustained a chest injury and listed his return as questionable . Concern grew, however, when multiple reports revealed that the receiver had been taken to a local hospital for further evaluation, making his return to the game appear highly unlikely.
Watson left the field and headed to the locker room after that offensive series. Once evaluated by the medical staff, the team decided to send him to the hospital as a precaution. Despite the scare, Green Bay finished the drive with a touchdown to take a 13-10 lead.
Christian Watson deals with another physical setback
Although Watson had been enjoying one of the best stretches of his career, injuries have defined much of his NFL tenure.
As a rookie he missed several games with hamstring issues, problems that also limited him to just nine appearances in his second season.
In 2024 he managed to stay healthy for 15 games , but the year ended with a torn ACL that forced him to miss seven contests the following season.
From the second half of 2025 through the first seven weeks of the 2026 campaign, Watson had put those physical problems behind him and was playing the best football of his career.
Over his previous 17 games, the receiver had piled up 69 catches for 1,206 yards and 12 touchdowns — elite production that is now on hold pending a definitive diagnosis on his condition.
Green Bay loses a key offensive piece
If Watson is forced to miss time, the Packers will face a serious depth issue at the wide receiver position.
Green Bay already began the game withou t Jayden Reed and Skyy Moore , both on the injured reserve list, while Matthew Golden entered with foot and shoulder soreness but was ultimately available.
Golden, Watson, and tight end Tucker Kraft have combined fo r 168 of the team’s 263 pass targets this season , meaning the receiver’s absence would force a significant redistribution of the aerial attack.
Second-year player Savion Williams is expected to step into a much larger role and could become one of the team’s primary offensive weapons. Bo Melton and undrafted rookie J. Michael Sturdivant — who replaced Watson after the injury and has three catches for 22 yards — would also see increased opportunities.
Another option for Matt LaFleur would be to lean more heavily on two-tight-end formations. Although Jonnu Smith was inactive, Josh Whyle and Mark Redman remain available to complement Tucker Kraft.
