Christian Watson's harrowing words after his serious injury: “I couldn't breathe”
Christian Watson details scary moment that left Green Bay fans fearing the worst

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson endured a frightening ordeal during Thursday night's victory over the Carolina Panthers , later revealing just how alarming his injury initially felt.
The 27-year-old was forced out of the contest after landing heavily while completing a spectacular 53-yard reception from quarterback Jordan Love during the second quarter. Watson came down awkwardly with defenders around him and immediately struggled to catch his breath.
The incident left Packers supporters fearing the worst, particularly as the receiver remained on the ground while medical personnel rushed to assess his condition.
Speaking afterwards, Watson described the terrifying sensation he experienced following the collision.
“I think I just came down on the ball or my elbow or something, and I couldn't breathe on the field. I just got the wind knocked out of me,” he explained.
Concern quickly escalated when Watson reached the sideline and began spitting up blood. Medical staff decided that he needed hospital treatment, despite his reluctance to leave his teammates and the stadium.
Watson admitted that he initially tried convincing doctors to allow him to remain at Lambeau Field. However, several concerning symptoms meant further examinations were unavoidable.
"It was tough. Honestly, I never wanted to go," Watson said. "I was hoping that they would let me off. I said I was kinda feeling better once I kinda caught my breath.
“But I mean, they said there was a couple of signs that made them have to take me over there."
An X-ray confirmed that he'd suffered a broken rib, while additional scans and blood tests were ordered to establish whether the collision had caused any more serious internal damage.
Watson makes astonishing return after hospital visit
Fortunately, the medical results provided considerable relief. Watson revealed that examinations showed no internal bleeding or other complications that raised suspicion, allowing doctors to clear him to return to the stadium.
The receiver spent approximately an hour away from Lambeau Field before making his unexpected journey back in an ambulance. His arrival generated enormous excitement among Packers supporters, who greeted him with enthusiastic cheers.
"I felt like I was watching a WWE SmackDown versus Raw or something, yeah. Or something out there." Watson said.
He also admitted that leaving the stadium had been difficult, particularly because he desperately wanted another opportunity to contribute.
Head coach Matt LaFleur was equally impressed by his player's determination. The Packers coach acknowledged how remarkable Watson's return had been after learning that he'd landed directly on the football and subsequently coughed up blood.
Watson eventually rejoined the contest midway through the third quarter, receiving an enthusiastic welcome from teammates and fans.
Remarkably, he finished the evening with eight receptions for 113 yards on 10 targets, despite missing a substantial portion of the game.
His contribution helped Green Bay secure a 27-19 victory over Carolina, making his unexpected comeback even more memorable.
While a broken rib remains a significant injury, Watson's return to the field offered plenty of relief to Green Bay fans.
