Jacobs won't be playing football for the foreseeable future, and no one knows how long it will be before he's back.

This week, Green Bay Packers fans began worrying about their star running back, Josh Jacobs , missing games this upcoming season. The full report from Jacobs' domestic violence incident was released, while the running back was ultimately charged with two criminal offenses : Battery and Criminal Damage to Property .

The details were concerning, but because the case is still ongoing and there's no specific timeline for when it will conclude, many assumed Jacobs would be able to continue playing. As it turns out, it's become possible that the NFL has more information regarding the incident - potentially video footage - because the league has taken a strong stance on Jacobs.

Josh Jacobs placed on Commissioner's Exempt List

The NFL placed Jacobs on the Commissioner's Exempt List on Sunday. If the list sounds exclusive, it's because it is, but not in a good way. Only NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell can put a player on the list. Once he does, that player can't take part in any of his team's games .

Right now, there's no way of knowing until when Jacobs will be on that list . It could be all season, if the legal process drags on that long . The Packers front office will now have to scramble to find a replacement for Jacobs. With MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks already on the roster, the Packers traded for Kaleb Johnson right after the Jacobs news broke.

But Johnson isn't exactly a lock to stick on the roster for very long. The 83rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft barely got on the field as a rookie for the Pittsburgh Steelers , totaling 69 yards on 28 carries throughout last season.

James Conner and Trey Benson make sense for Packers

Packers fans feel the team needs a veteran running back instead. Naturally, that has many urging the front office to pursue a trade for James Conner , who has practically been demoted to third-string on the Arizona Cardinals . While that makes sense in theory, Conner was just placed on Injured Reserve due to a foot injury suffered last season that hasn't fully healed yet.

The Packers could also take a look at Trey Benson , who was cut by the Cardinals a few days ago. Benson is 24 years old and has shown glimpses of his explosiveness, but like Conner has been hampered by injuries lately.
