The end of Travis Kelce ’s career is not part of Andy Reid ’s plans just yet. The head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs made it clear that he is not ready to put a timeline on the retirement of one of the greatest players in franchise history.

What a start for Travis Kelce on Monday Night Football

Kelce started the 2026 season in the best way possible, proving he still has plenty left to offer. The tight end recorded three receptions for 71 yards in the Chiefs’ 31-10 victory over the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football , including an explosive 59-yard catch, his longest reception in five years. Best of all, he did it in front of his wife, Taylor Swift.

The performance came amid continued questions about how much longer Kelce will continue playing, as the veteran turns 37 years old in October . Although he has not announced any retirement plans, Reid highlighted the impact Kelce can still make on the field.

“Kelce, he dusted it off, right? Three for 71 yards. Pretty good for an old man that people look crosseyed at,” Reid told reporters after the game.

The 59-yard reception was only one example of Kelce’s importance in Kansas City’s win. He also made a six-yard catch on a key third down that kept a drive alive against the reigning AFC West champions.

Travis Kelce is still not thinking about retirement

Kelce himself has also pushed back against the idea that he has already decided when he will walk away from football.

During an interview with Chris Berman for Good Morning America , the tight end admitted he is not ready to say goodbye to the game.

“I’m still kind of sitting here like, ‘I don’t want to let this thing go,’” he admitted.

Although he began a new chapter in his personal life during the offseason after marrying Taylor Swift , Kelce said his passion for the NFL remains strong and that he believes he can still compete at the highest level.

He said he wants “to keep playing until the wheels fall off.”
