Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy dismissed any communication issues with Patrick Mahomes following their heated exchange during the team’s Week 4 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders .

Bieniemy said he not only accepts his players expressing frustration but considers that trust an important part of the coach-player relationship.

“I have no problems with guys venting their frustrations, because I want them to,” Bieniemy told reporters. “That’s part of the dynamic of the relationship that we have… if there’s something that’s taking place out on the field, they may have a better point of view than what we do from off the field, and so I want them to feel comfortable coming to share that stuff with me.”

Regarding the sideline moment with Mahomes, Bieniemy explained that he simply wanted to understand the quarterback’s frustration.

“At that particular time, I’m pretty sure I had asked, ‘Hey, man, what’s going on? Is everything okay?’”

Television cameras captured Mahomes speaking intensely with Bieniemy after Kansas City’s final offensive possession before halftime ended in a field goal that tied the game rather than a touchdown that would have given the Chiefs the lead.

The Chiefs settled for a 28-yard field goal after Mahomes failed to complete a pass to tight end Noah Gray on third-and-goal.

“There’s so many errors that take place throughout the case of a game, and hell, I’ve probably cussed somebody out about something,” Bieniemy added. “But that stuff, it happens, and not that you ever take anything personally.”

The Raiders took a lead into halftime with another field goal, but Kansas City mounted a comeback after Kenneth Walker III recovered a loose ball and scored the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Chiefs looking to improve in the red zone

Despite their perfect start to the season, Kansas City still has areas to clean up — particularly converting scoring opportunities into touchdowns.

The Chiefs rank 14th in the NFL in red-zone touchdown efficiency at 63 percent through Week 5.

This is not the first time Mahomes and Bieniemy have had an intense in-game conversation. The quarterback has previously drawn attention for similar exchanges with the offensive coordinator, who returned to the role this season after holding the position from 2018 to 2022 .

The win over the Raiders allowed Kansas City to enter its bye week as one of only three remaining undefeated teams in the NFL.

The Chiefs will now look to maintain the momentum from their 4-0 start when they host a Chargers team that is still winless and ranks second-to-last in the league in passing yards.
