“It's not about the shape I'm in”: Travis Kelce puts stop to awkward questions about weight after driving Taylor Swift and Chiefs Kingdom wild against the Colts
Kelce delivered a vintage night against Indianapolis, then brushed off body talk after the game
Travis Kelce had already answered questions about his age, his workload and whether he could still produce at an elite level. After Sunday night, the conversation shifted to something even more personal.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end turned back the clock in a 33-30 overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts, catching nine passes for 101 yards and scoring his first touchdown of the season.
Taylor Swift , watching from a suite at Arrowhead Stadium, exploded in celebration when Patrick Mahomes found Kelce for the score. Cameras caught her pointing to her ring finger and shouting, “That’s my husband!”
Kelce ’s performance was his first 100-yard regular-season game since 2024 and reinforced the sense that he has started his 14th NFL season in better form than many expected. Then came an unusual postgame question.
Kelce brushes off offseason weight chatter
During an appearance on SportsCenter, Scott Van Pelt referenced a viral training-camp photo that sparked discussion about Kelce ’s weight and conditioning.
“There was a picture that went viral of you in camp as if you were some fat guy,” Van Pelt said.
Kelce didn't take the bait: “You know what, I can't say enough about the support system and the people that I have around me and just the ability to focus in on the goal and task, and one of them through training camp was to get in the best shape of my life,” he said.
The 36-year-old credited Andy Reid ’s demanding camp with helping prepare Kansas City for games like Sunday’s.
“Coach Reid set the bar high for everyone in that building to get through training camp, and training camp was a lot of dog days,” Kelce said.
Grit matters more than appearance
Kelce ’s real point came when he shifted the conversation away from how he looks and toward how he plays.
“It's not as much about the shape that I look like I'm in," Kelce added. "It's about the grit that I have and the heart that I have to get that ball north and find a way to get a victory for our team.”
Sunday gave him plenty of evidence. Kelce was Mahomes ’ most productive target and looked sharper than he did for stretches last season, helping the Chiefs improve to 2-0.
Mahomes also earns huge praise
Kelce saved some of his strongest words for Mahomes , who threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns.
“I can't say enough about who that guy is as a person, how he leads this team, and how he just shows up every single day,” Kelce said. “15 is one of the best fathers, one of the best husbands, and one of the best teammates I've ever played with.”
Kansas City now heads to Miami in Week 3 with momentum building around both stars. And after Sunday night, the questions about Kelce ’s conditioning suddenly look a lot less important than the numbers he is putting up.
