The Kansas City Chiefs have opened the season 4-0, but injuries to their receiving corps could force Andy Reid to explore additional options as the franchise looks to maintain its strong start and Kenneth Walker is open to bringing Tyreek Hill onboard. With Tyquan Thornton facing an extended absence and Rashee Rice also dealing with an injury, speculation about a potential reunion with the speedy wide receiver dubbed Cheetah has been circulated.

Hill , who spent the first six seasons of his career in Kansas City before being traded to the Miami Dolphins ahead of the 2022 NFL season, has been posting workout videos and hinting at a possible return to the league and his agent has also confirmed that the Chiefs are among the teams he has contacted. The eight-time Pro Bowler is 32 and recovering from a serious knee injury sustained during his time with the Dolphins and is known for his explosive speed that proved key to the Chiefs winning their first Super Bowl since the 1960s in 2019. Linking back up with Reid and Patrick Mahomes seems to be a natural fit if the team decides to strengthen its receiving options and Walker , who has quickly established himself as a key part of the offense, admitted surprise – but that he understands how good Hill is. “Honestly, I just found out today. I didn’t even know – I just found out five minutes ago it was, like, a thing," Walker told OutKick. "But, you know, I’ve seen Tyreek Hill play. I don’t know him personally, but I’ve seen him play and he’s a baller. I think Coach Reid can make a playmaker of anybody he brings here." The more immediate concern is Thornton 's recovery and how quickly Kansas City can restore its receiving depth, and whilst a Hill reunion is possible, it remains speculative, with no confirmed agreement or return date.

When will the Chiefs get Tyquan Thornton back?

Thornton suffered a serious ankle injury during the fourth quarter of Kansas City 's 30-27 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, October 4 as the wide receiver was forced to leave Allegiant Stadium on crutches. He had made a crucial 55-yard catch in what had been the best performance of his NFL career to put the Chiefs into the red zone, and finished with five receptions for a career-high 111 yards and two touchdowns, leading the team’s pass catchers. His injury therefore represents a significant setback for an offense that had benefited from his ability to stretch defenses by getting open and his ability to display safe hands on deep plays. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport , Thornton is expected to return before the end of the season following a dislocated left ankle and further medical examinations indicate the projected recovery timeline was reported to be 12 to 16 weeks. Despite the severity of the injury, Thornton appeared in good spirits when leaving the locker room and subsequently offered an encouraging message on social media, writing that he would be "back stronger & better." Thorton could be back in time for the NFL Playoffs but the focus now shifts to Week 6 after their bye as Kansas City must also monitor Rice , who exited Sunday's game in the first quarter with a right hamstring injury and did not return.
