Mariska Hargitay is still basking in the memories of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce 's wedding, and she has now given fans a glimpse into why the celebration made such a lasting impression on her.

The "Law & Order: SVU" star appeared on " Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on September 9, where she discussed attending Swift and Kelce's July wedding at New York City's Madison Square Garden.

Hargitay attended alongside her husband, Peter Hermann , and said the experience exceeded anything she had anticipated.

"I’m still floating from that wedding," Hargitay admitted. "It was so spectacular and so intimate, I have to say. I have to say, I am blown away, because [when there’s a wedding with that many guests], you think, like, "Oh, okay, it’s gonna be that." And it just wasn’t."

The scale of the event made that intimacy particularly surprising. Swift and Kelce brought together a huge collection of friends, relatives and famous faces at the iconic Manhattan venue, which ordinarily has a capacity of roughly 20,000 people.

Their wedding was confirmed by Swift's representative after months of intense speculation surrounding the date and location.

Rather than focusing on the celebrity spectacle, however, Hargitay said one of the most personal elements of the ceremony stood out above everything else.

"I even say that the vows were my favorite part of the whole wedding," she continued. "It was that magical."

That reaction provides an interesting perspective on an event that attracted enormous attention because of the global fame of both newlyweds.

The ceremony was officiated by actor Adam Sandler , while Swift's brother Austin served as her "Man of Honor" and Kelce's brother Jason was his best man. The couple did not have additional bridesmaids or groomsmen.

Hargitay and Swift's friendship goes well beyond the wedding

Hargitay's presence at the wedding was hardly a random celebrity invitation. She and Swift have maintained a friendship for years, with their connection dating back to Swift's "Bad Blood" music video.

Their relationship even inspired one of Swift's most recognizable personal tributes to the actress: the singer named one of her cats Olivia Benson after Hargitay's iconic "Law & Order: SVU" character. Hargitay has also spoken warmly about Swift's personality and their friendship.

That connection has extended into their shared love of basketball. In June, Hargitay and Swift were photographed together while attending Game 4 of the NBA Finals involving the New York Knicks.

Hargitay recalled the experience on Kimmel's show, including Swift's enthusiasm for getting her properly dressed for the occasion.

"She was throwing me around like a rag doll!" Hargitay said about the singer.

The actress was also asked whether Swift might eventually make an appearance on "Law & Order: SVU," potentially joining the long list of celebrities who have expressed interest in appearing on the long-running NBC drama.

Hargitay was skeptical. "I don’t know, somehow I think she’s super busy," the actress laughed.

For Hargitay, the wedding discussion comes during an unusually successful period in her own career. She recently earned two Creative Arts Emmy Awards for "My Mom Jayne," her documentary about her late mother, actress Jayne Mansfield.

The Television Academy lists Hargitay as the winner of Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program.

She is also making history as host of the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, becoming the first woman to host the ceremony since Jane Lynch in 2011. The awards are scheduled to air live on NBC and Peacock on September 14.

That busy schedule has not stopped Hargitay from looking back fondly on the summer's biggest celebrity wedding.

While Swift and Kelce's marriage attracted attention because of its star-studded guest list and extraordinary scale, Hargitay's description suggests that the couple managed to make the occasion feel personal for the people closest to them.

And for someone who has known Swift for more than a decade, the actress appears to have experienced the celebration not simply as another major Hollywood event, but as a deeply personal milestone for a close friend.
