Patrick Mahomes ' father is waiting on a court decision that could determine whether he is allowed to travel and watch his son play for the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2026 NFL season.

Pat Mahomes Sr . filed a motion Friday in the 7th District Court in Tyler, Texas, seeking permission to leave the state for seven Chiefs games.

The requested trips would take him to Kansas City, Missouri, Las Vegas, Nevada and Cincinnati, Ohio.

Pat Mahomes Sr. needs court approval to travel

Mahomes Sr . is currently on probation after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated in 2024.

He received five years of probation, but that period was later extended by another two years after he was arrested in February 2026 for allegedly violating the terms of his probation by drinking alcohol.

His current restrictions mean he can't simply leave Texas whenever he chooses.

According to the motion, Mahomes Sr . must undergo urinalysis testing before and after each trip and notify his supervising officer whenever he leaves the state.

The filing also points to steps he has taken since the violation.

Mahomes Sr . has completed 16 weeks of outpatient treatment and 160 hours of community service, while the motion says he has complied with his current probation conditions.

He is also being monitored with an ankle monitor.

Patrick Mahomes prepares for another Chiefs season

The request comes as Patrick Mahomes prepares to begin another season with Kansas City.

The quarterback underwent surgery in December to repair torn ligaments in his knee, but he has worked with the first team throughout training camp.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid recently offered an encouraging update on his progress.

"He's going to keep practicing just like he's been doing," Reid said. "These are more like practice here, a lot of one-versus-one play these next couple of days. That's a good thing."

Whether Mahomes Sr . gets to watch those games in person now depends on the court.

His request covers seven trips, but until a judge grants permission, his ability to accompany the Chiefs outside Texas remains uncertain.
