A new season is getting closer for the Kansas City Chiefs , and it appears that Patrick Mahomes is ready to return. However, before Week 1 , the quarterback has made it clear that he wants to put all questions about his recovery behind him. The quarterback made it clear that he no longer wants to keep talking about his leg injury after a reporter asked him once again about his physical condition during his meeting with the media on Thursday.

“Hopefully I’m done with the questions about the leg,” he told reporters.

The three-time Super Bowl champion suffered tears to the ACL and LCL ligaments in his left knee during the matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers last December . The severity of the injury raised doubts about his availability for the start of the season, but after a successful surgery, the quarterback was cleared to return to practice in July.

From the moment he underwent surgery, Mahomes set Week 1 as his main goal, and everything indicates he will stay on track with his recovery timeline. The quarterback explained in August that doctors had projected a return nine months after surgery if he followed the proper rehabilitation process.

“It’s nine months. It’s the amount of time [doctors] said from the beginning, that if I did everything the right way, I would be ready to play Week One. I’m someone that, if you put [a goal] out in front of me, I want to go out and get it and maximize every single opportunity, every rep in the weight room, every hour that I can spend in the building to get my body right. This has always been the plan. From the day I got the surgery, as quick as I did, to hopefully the first game of the year, the plan will go accordingly, and I’ll be able to go out there and be myself.”

Head coach Andy Reid also confirmed that there is a strong possibility Mahomes will be the starter in the season opener against the Denver Broncos.

“As far as our roster goes, there's a very good chance that Patrick will go ahead and start unless something were to come up here in the next couple days,” Reid told reporters. “Most likely he'll be the guy that's out there.”

With their offensive centerpiece back, the Chiefs are looking to move past any uncertainty and begin a new season with their sights set on competing for another NFL championship.
