Shocking Kenneth Walker stat shows Chiefs got a steal in free agency that has transformed their offense

It’s no surprise that the Super Bowl MVP has gotten off to a hot start, but even the Chiefs couldn’t have expected this.

Through two weeks of the 2026 NFL season , it’s almost not being talked about enough that the Kansas City Chiefs look to have completely rebounded from a disastrous 2025. A drubbing of the Denver Broncos in Week 1 was followed by an overtime win over a resilient Indianapolis Colts team in Week 2.

Along the way, the Chiefs have racked up a strong 64 points through those two games, and a date against a bad Miami Dolphins defense is up next. Patrick Mahomes has looked like his usual self, which is the best news, but it’s been Kenneth Walker III who has stolen the headlines - and for good reason.

In just two games, Walker has already amassed 369 total yards and two touchdowns . He's already over a quarter of the way to his 2025 total ; meaning he's on pace to surpass his best-ever season in just eight games.

Kenneth Walker is avoiding tackles at a historic rate

What's even crazier is that Walker isn't doing this because of incredible blocking or the offense manufacturing touches in open space for him . Right now, Walker leads the league in avoided tackle percentage by an insane 19.3 percentage points over the second-best running back.

That number will surely go down as the season progresses, but it isn't a fluke by any means. In fact, Walker led the league in avoided tackle rate in 2025, too, at 34.4% .

The Chiefs, and Andy Reid in particular, have been fiending to find a running back like Walker for some time now. They finally got an elite one that is changing the Chiefs offense.
