From Taylor Swift’s Kennedy era to Russia’s international wanted list, Conor Kennedy is making headlines for a very different reason .
Taylor Swift fans may remember Conor Kennedy as the Kennedy heir who briefly captured the singer’s attention in 2012 . More than a decade later, his name is back in the headlines, but this time for a reason far removed from his famous romance with Swift.
Their short-lived romance became part of Swift’s 2012 era
The couple’s paths crossed quickly. Swift and Conor were first spotted together in early July 2012, but their relationship ended by October of that same year. Before their romance, Swift had already become close to Conor’s grandmother, Ethel Kennedy , and was reportedly starstruck when she met the Kennedy family member.
Swift even drew inspiration from the family for her music . Her connection to Ethel Kennedy became part of the story behind Starlight , a track from her 2012 album Red that imagines a young romance between Ethel and her late husband, Robert F. Kennedy.
Conor’s name is now making headlines for a completely different reason
Conor, meanwhile, has taken a very different path since those days. The 32-year-old lawyer has been placed on Russia’s international wanted list and accused of acting as a mercenary while defending Ukraine against Russia in the countries’ ongoing conflict, according to Russian state media outlet TASS.
The charge is reportedly connected to a secret trip Conor made to Ukraine in 2022 . He later detailed the experience in an Instagram post published that October.
Conor, the son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his late ex-wife Mary Richardson Kennedy, described his experience as a volunteer soldier. After spending two and a half months in Ukraine, he returned to the United States and resumed his law studies at Georgetown University.
If arrested , Conor could face a seven- to 10-year prison sentence in Russia over the charge.
More than a decade after his high-profile relationship with Swift, Conor has also moved on in his personal life. He is now engaged to Brazilian singer Giulia Be.
