The Kansas City Chiefs are exploring options to strengthen their receiving corps following key injuries, and a rumor red move could offer Patrick Mahomes a familiar target with Justin Watson emerging as a potential reunion candidate.

Kansas City looks to maintain its strong start to the 2026 NFL season after racing to a 4-0 record with wins over the Denver Broncos , Indianapolis Colts , Miami Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders to lead the AFC West .

But the latest injury setbacks have created a need for additional depth as Rashee Rice is dealing with a hamstring injury, while Tyquan Thornton suffered an ankle fracture after making a significant contribution to the offense. The latter is not expected back until January.

Watson is among the receivers attracting interest from the franchise and Pete Sweeney reports the Chiefs were one of several teams considering the free agent, who became available after the Houston Texans released him on August 30.

The 30-year-old has experience in Andy Reid 's system and has won three Super Bowl rings, claiming one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before helping Kansas City secure consecutive championships.

His familiarity with Mahomes and the coaching staff could make him an appealing option as the Chiefs seek reinforcements without requiring a lengthy adjustment period. Across his three seasons with the team, Watson recorded 64 receptions for 1,064 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Is an NFL suspension on the way for Tyreek Hill?

The discussion surrounding Kansas City 's receiving options come as Hill faces pressure over his testimony in his ongoing divorce-related battery trial in Miami-Dade County , Florida .

Hill spent a second day on the witness stand on Friday, addressing allegations involving Lakeeta Vaccaro and acknowledged verbally abusing his wife but disputed claims that he physically harmed her.

His testimony about an incident at their Sunny Isles condominium changed between Thursday and Friday as he initially, he testified that he pushed Vaccaro against a wall while trying to get her away from him, creating a hole in the wall.

But on Friday, Hill offered a different explanation, saying the damage occurred when a door struck the wall as he attempted to evade Vaccaro . He also acknowledged that he had emotionally hurt her during an incident captured by a nanny camera.

When asked whether he had done so in that moment, Hill replied, "In that moment, yes."

The proceedings were scheduled to resume on Monday, with the NFL watching on as they could hand a suspension to the wide receiver if they opt to take a review of the matter.
