Travis Kelce is ready to make history by taking a legendary record away from Tony Gonzalez
Travis Kelce is just one big play away from rewriting NFL history, with Tony Gonzalez’s legendary record standing in his way on National Tight Ends Day.

T ravis Kelc e is about to write another golden chapter in a career already destined for the Hall of Fame. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end will have a new chance to make history this Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks , with two legendary records within reach.
Kelce needs just 35 receiving yards to surpass Tony Gonzalez and become the tight end with the most receiving yards in NFL history , including regular season and playoffs.
The Chiefs and Falcons legend finished his career with 15,413 receiving yards — 15,127 in the regular season and 286 in the postseason . Kelce enters Sunday Night Football with 15,379 yards , split between 13,301 in the regular season and 2,078 in the playoffs . A performance of just 35 yards against Seattle will be enough to claim a record that once seemed untouchable.
But that is not the only historic mark Kelce has in his sights. The veteran is also on the verge of climbing the all-time regular-season receptions list.
He currently has 1,100 catches , the seventh-highest total in NFL history . Ahead of him are Cris Carter with 1,101 and Marvin Harrison with 1,102 . That means just three receptions against the Seahawks would push Kelce past Harrison and into the exclusive all-time Top 5 .
Only four players in NFL history have surpassed the 1,102-reception barrier: Jerry Rice (1,549), Larry Fitzgerald (1,432), Tony Gonzalez (1,325) and Jason Witten (1,228).
At 36 years old, Kelce continues to defy Father Time and add more arguments to a career that already places him among the greatest tight ends the league has ever seen.
Travis Kelce injury update: Chiefs star expected to play vs. Seahawks
Travis Kelce has been managing an ankle injury that limited his participation in each of the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice sessions this week.
Despite being listed as a limited participant throughout the week, the Chiefs did not give Kelce an official game status designation ahead of their Week 7 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks .
That is a strong indication that the veteran tight end is expected to be available for Sunday night’s primetime showdown.
