Tyreek Hill’s Chiefs reunion suddenly looks realistic after Week 4 injuries

Kansas City lost two key wide receivers Sunday, and Hill’s latest message came at a striking moment

The Kansas City Chiefs are 4-0, but their perfect start came with a potentially costly setback at wide receiver.

Rashee Rice left Sunday’s 30-27 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders with a hamstring injury in the first quarter.

Then Tyquan Thornton , who had emerged as one of Patrick Mahomes ’ most productive targets, suffered a dislocated left ankle after catching a 55-yard pass in the fourth quarter. Thornton finished with five catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game.

That combination of injuries immediately changed the conversation around a player who has been hovering over the Chiefs all season: Tyreek Hill.

Shortly after Thornton’s injury, Hill posted one word on X: "Hm"

On its own, the message means very little. In the context of Hill’s recent social-media activity, his injury recovery and Kansas City’s sudden need for another explosive receiver, however, it landed differently.

And now there is more than social-media speculation. The Chiefs have reportedly reached out to Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus , about a potential reunion, according to The Athletic's Mike Silver.

Hill is believed to be targeting a return in November, although his health remains the biggest variable. That makes Hill’s "Hm" post look considerably more interesting.

Hill has been preparing for an NFL comeback

Hill , 32, has spent the year recovering from the severe knee injury that ended his 2025 season with the Miami Dolphins . The injury involved a dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments, including the ACL, and his recovery has been a long process.

In July, Hill acknowledged that his injured leg still lacked strength but said his rehabilitation was moving in the right direction.

“I ain’t going to tell you what my timeline is, but timeline looking real good right now, man,” Hill said at the time.

He also explained the extent of the rehabilitation process. “So it’s about 10 months after doing two surgeries,” Hill said. “My left leg is the one that I injured. I have no power in my left leg at all, so I’m trying to regain all the power back in my left leg. But it’s one day at a time.”

Since then, Hill has repeatedly posted workout footage while making comments that have kept fans guessing about his next move.

After a fan questioned whether he could still play at his age, Hill responded: "32 is not old still prime years"

Then, while watching Week 3, he wrote: "It’s almost time to get off the couch and get to work,"

A couple of days later came another intriguing message: "I think I’m ready for some cold weather."

That last post particularly fueled Kansas City speculation. Hill spent the first six seasons of his career with the Chiefs , and cold-weather football in Kansas City would be a familiar setting for the veteran receiver.

Hill remains one of the most accomplished players in franchise history. From 2016 through 2021, he caught 479 passes for 6,630 yards and 56 touchdowns with Kansas City.

He also played a major role in the Chiefs ' Super Bowl LIV championship and developed one of the NFL's most dangerous connections with Mahomes .

The fit therefore goes beyond nostalgia. Kansas City currently needs receiving help, while Hill needs an opportunity to prove he can still contribute at the highest level.

Mahomes has already spoken positively about his former teammate this season. On Sept. 9, Hill described his former quarterback as a "different man" after ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Mahomes would return for Week 1, only nine months after suffering ACL and LCL tears.

Now the Chiefs have another reason to consider bringing Hill home.

Rice's hamstring injury and Thornton's ankle injury leave Kansas City needing to determine how much depth it can trust around Mahomes. Xavier Worthy also has been dealing with a shoulder issue, although he played against Las Vegas.

Kansas City has plenty of reasons to be cautious. Hill has not played since September 2025, and a November comeback would come after an extremely serious knee injury.

The Chiefs would need to establish exactly what he can offer physically before relying on him during a Super Bowl push. But the circumstances have changed dramatically.

Earlier this year, a Hill return to Kansas City looked more like an entertaining possibility than a realistic roster move. After Sunday's injuries, the need is obvious. The Chiefs remain undefeated, Mahomes is healthy and the team has legitimate championship ambitions.

And Hill has made it clear that he believes he still has football left. Now, according to the latest reporting, Kansas City has at least started the conversation.

For a player who spent six seasons helping make the Chiefs one of the NFL's most explosive offenses, the timing could hardly be more intriguing.
