Ashton Jeanty had a difficult rookie season with the Las Vegas Raiders , who finished 3-14 with one of the weakest offensive lines in the NFL . His outlook has changed in his second year, though. Under Klint Kubiak , the running back has taken on a bigger role in the offense and is happy with his new responsibilities.

Jeanty singled out his involvement in the passing game over the first four weeks of the season, an area he wasn’t able to take advantage of as much in his debut campaign.

“I feel like that was an area of my game that I didn’t get to utilize as much, so coming in with this new scheme and being more involved in the pass game is great,” Jeanty said.

The numbers back up his enthusiasm. Jeanty has 165 receiving yards, the third-most among NFL running backs this season. He also has two receiving touchdowns, a total that puts him among the leaders at his position, and 24 targets, the third-highest total among running backs.

Both scores came in the season opener, when Las Vegas beat the Miami Dolphins 27-13 in the debut of the Kubiak era . In that game, Jeanty also ran for 102 yards on 23 carries . According to the Raiders, he became just the second player since the 1970 NFL merger with two multi-receiving-touchdown games in his first 20 career games.

Last Sunday, despite the 30-27 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs , the running back was again involved in the passing game, catching six passes for 68 yards. It was Las Vegas’ first loss of the season.

Jeanty described his start as “solid work,” though he acknowledged there’s still room to improve. Among his goals are refining his pass protection and reading defenses better to make smarter decisions when carrying the ball.

The ground game, in fact, remains one of the Raiders’ main concerns. Jeanty managed just 58 yards on 15 carries against Kansas City , and the team’s running backs average only 0.38 yards before contact per attempt, the second-worst mark in the league. Kubiak took responsibility for the struggles in the run game.

Since arriving, the coach has sought to revitalize Las Vegas’ offense with a scheme that is already producing results elsewhere. Kirk Cousins leads the NFL with 11 touchdown passes, and the Raiders are 3-1, meaning they have already matched the three wins they had in all of the 2025 season, when they finished 3-14.

Las Vegas’ next game is this Sunday, when it visits the New England Patriots , looking to get back in the win column and keep building on Jeanty’s role in the offense.
