Just what we needed: Antonio Brown being blamed for Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen's divorce

A forthcoming book claims the marriage had been under pressure for years before the 2022 divorce

Antonio Brown has never been shy about stepping into the most uncomfortable parts of Tom Brady ’s personal history, and he has done it again as new details emerge about the collapse of Brady ’s marriage to Gisele Bundchen .

The former NFL receiver reacted to a report about Lars Anderson ’s forthcoming book, “Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness,” which claims Bundchen eventually told Brady , “We’re not compatible,” as their 13-year marriage broke down.

Brown reposted the story and added a brief message of his own: “Antonio f**king Brown.”

He didn't explain the meaning behind the post, but given Brown ’s history of trolling Brady and Bundchen around the time of their divorce, the implication was difficult to miss.

Anderson’s book reportedly describes a marriage that had been under pressure for years, particularly over Brady ’s refusal to walk away from football. Bundchen had apparently raised the idea of retirement long before the couple separated.

After New England’s Super Bowl victory in 2017, she reportedly asked Brady : “Would now be the perfect time to retire?” Brady allegedly replied: “Too bad, babe. I’m having too much fun right now.”

The book also claims Bundchen later wrote Brady a serious letter asking him to spend more time with the family, reduce the amount of attention he gave his phone and help more with their children.

Those concerns reportedly intensified in 2022, when Brady announced his retirement in February before reversing the decision a month later and returning to the NFL. The couple finalized their divorce that October.

Brown has his own history with Brady

Brown ’s reaction carries extra weight because he and Brady once had a close football relationship.

They were briefly teammates with the New England Patriots before reuniting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , where Brady strongly advocated for Brown’s signing. Brown even stayed at Brady ’s home while getting settled in Tampa.

The pair won Super Bowl LV together, with Brown catching a touchdown pass from Brady in the 31-9 victory over Kansas City. Their relationship later deteriorated after Brown ’s infamous mid-game exit against the New York Jets in January 2022.

Brown then repeatedly targeted Brady publicly, including posting an edited image involving Bundchen while reports of marital problems were circulating.

Bundchen framed the divorce differently

Despite years of speculation, Bundchen ’s public explanation for the split has remained much more measured.

“With much gratitude for our time together, Tom and I have amicably finalized our divorce,” she wrote when announcing the separation. “The decision to end a marriage is never easy but we have grown apart.”

Brady and Bundchen share two children, Benjamin and Vivian, and have continued to emphasize co-parenting.

Brown ’s latest post may suggest he wants a place in the story, but the new reporting points to a marriage that had been under strain for years and for reasons far more complicated than one former teammate.
