First experience at the Oakland Coliseum was far more intimidating than expected

Rachel Crosby is now a familiar face around the Las Vegas Raiders , but her introduction to Raider Nation came with considerably more nerves than confidence.

The wife of star defensive end Maxx Crosby recalled what it was like attending Raiders games during the franchise’s final years in Oakland, admitting the warnings she received beforehand made the atmosphere sound more intimidating than exciting.

“I was nervous, because everybody was like, ‘You have to wear black, make sure everyone’s with you, wear Raiders stuff, don’t talk to the fans’,” Crosby said in an interview published by the team. “So, I’m nervous as hell.”

That anxiety didn't last. Crosby said the experience ultimately turned into something she loved, and over time she became closely connected with a fan base that has embraced both her and her husband.

Remembering old Oakland atmosphere

Crosby ’s comments are especially revealing because her first experiences came at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, where Raiders games developed a reputation for being among the NFL’s most intense.

The franchise has since moved to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, but the identity of Raider Nation remains rooted in the years when Oakland crowds were known for their passion, elaborate costumes and hostility toward visiting teams.

That reputation was enough to make Crosby cautious before she ever stepped inside. Her experience, however, quickly changed her perception.

Rather than feeling unwelcome, she came to appreciate the energy surrounding the franchise while Maxx established himself as one of the most important players on the roster.

Crosby entered the league as a fourth-round pick in 2019 and has since developed into one of the NFL’s premier edge rushers, becoming synonymous with the relentless style Raiders fans traditionally admire.

Maxx Crosby at center of Las Vegas’ future

Rachel ’s story comes as her husband prepares for another significant season with Las Vegas.

The Raiders enter 2026 with questions surrounding the direction of their defense, including how new coordinator Rob Leonard will shape the unit and how much pressure will once again fall on Crosby to generate disruption up front.

His future also became a talking point during the offseason amid trade speculation, although he remains the centerpiece of the defense heading into the regular season.

That status has only strengthened the Crosby family’s connection with Raider Nation. What once felt intimidating to Rachel has become familiar territory.

The setting is different now. Allegiant Stadium has a more modern, entertainment-driven atmosphere and regularly attracts large numbers of visiting supporters, but the franchise’s fan culture remains one of the strongest in football.

Rachel Crosby experienced that intensity before the move to Las Vegas and remembers exactly how it felt walking into it for the first time.
