Fernando Mendoza's arrival in Las Vegas has already generated enormous excitement, but one NFL radio personality took that enthusiasm to an entirely different level.

Damon Bruce made a wild admission while discussing the Raiders rookie on The What Wright Show, saying he was “personally ready” to have Mendoza's baby if the quarterback asked.

“I am personally ready to have Fernando Mendoza’s baby if he asked me to have it. Like, I love the guy. They should expect nothing short of miracles,” said Bruce .

“He’s already done the football equivalent of walking on water. Heisman, undefeated national title. And if you can win at Indiana, you might even be able to be the guy who can turn the Raiders around. He’s almost too good to be true, boy-scouty.”

The tongue-in-cheek remark highlighted just how quickly the No. 1 overall pick has captured the imagination of Raiders supporters.

Mendoza has arrived in the NFL carrying an extraordinary résumé. After beginning his college career at California, he transferred to Indiana and became the centerpiece of one of college football's most dramatic turnarounds.

He helped transform the Hoosiers into a national powerhouse, ultimately winning the Heisman Trophy and leading Indiana to a national championship before becoming the first overall pick in the NFL draft.

However, the Raiders aren't rushing their young quarterback into the starting role. Veteran Kirk Cousins has been named the team's starter, leaving Mendoza to concentrate on learning the offense and adapting to the speed and physicality of professional football.

His preseason debut nevertheless gave fans plenty to be excited about. Against the Arizona Cardinals, Mendoza completed 10 of 16 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown.

He also contributed six rushing yards while taking one sack. The rookie showed composure during several promising drives, offering an early glimpse of why Las Vegas invested the top pick in him.

Mendoza's latest opportunity raises the excitement

Mendoza's development took another significant step during Tuesday's joint practice with the Houston Texans. For the first time during training camp, the rookie received extensive first-team repetitions, allowing him to go up against Houston's starters and experience a more demanding level of competition.

Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak explained that putting Mendoza against the Texans' first unit had been part of the team's plan. The practice wasn't perfect, with Houston's defense creating pressure and forcing turnovers, but the young quarterback still produced some encouraging moments.

One of the highlights came when Mendoza escaped pressure before finding tight end Brock Bowers for a substantial gain. Facing a defense that ranked first in the NFL in yards allowed last season provided a valuable test for the rookie.

Mendoza also received a strong endorsement from Texans defensive star Will Anderson Jr. after the practice.

"Ton of respect for him…He's going to be a really great quarterback in this league," Anderson said.

That type of recognition is significant for a rookie who's still adjusting to the professional game. Mendoza has repeatedly acknowledged that the NFL represents a major jump from college football, and the Raiders appear determined to give him the time and experience needed to handle that transition.

Cousins remains the starter for now, but Mendoza's trajectory is already generating plenty of optimism around Las Vegas. Every first-team rep and impressive preseason play gives fans another reason to believe the rookie could eventually become the franchise quarterback they've been waiting for.
