Tom Brady's former TV admirer Inés Gómez Mont arrested amid $160 million fraud allegations
What happened?

In 2008, Inés Gómez Mont found a rather unusual way to show her admiration for Tom Brady . The then-TV Azteca reporter, who worked for one of Mexico's leading television networks, showed up at Super Bowl XLII Media Day wearing a wedding dress with one clear intention: to win over the New England Patriots quarterback . Her bold move did not go unnoticed and sparked a controversy that put the network in the spotlight. Nearly 19 years later, her name is making headlines again, but for an entirely different reason.
According to reports, she was arrested on October 30, 2026, by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Miami . She has since been held at the Broward Transitional Center in Pompano Beach while her immigration status is being reviewed.
Her arrest in the United States is related to her immigration status, but the case has another ongoing front in Mexico. The Attorney General's Office (FGR) has active investigations against her, and three outstanding arrest warrants have been issued over allegations of organized crime, money laundering and tax fraud.
The investigations also involve her husband, businessman Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga . Both are accused of allegedly participating in a network of companies that was used to divert approximately 2.45 billion pesos in public funds earmarked for the federal prison system during former President Enrique Peña Nieto's administration.
Gómez Mont is also accused of allegedly failing to pay more than 13 million pesos in taxes on her personal returns. These allegations are part of ongoing legal proceedings and have yet to result in a conviction.
Inés Gómez Mont's legal team seeks to challenge her immigration detention
While she remains in custody, her attorneys have filed a habeas corpus petition in a federal court in Florida , challenging the legality of her detention and requesting that she be allowed to continue the proceedings while free on bail. They have also asked authorities to prevent a possible transfer to another detention facility, arguing that one of her daughters requires medical treatment in Miami.
Meanwhile, the FGR has indicated that if Gómez Mont is deported or an extradition process is approved, she would have to face the outstanding arrest warrants against her in Mexico.
