Erica Donald explained that retirement gave her husband something he hadn't experienced much during his playing career: extended time at home with his family.
"He got a chance to really be a dad," she said.
That time away appears to have changed his perspective rather than completely satisfying his desire to remain retired.
According to Erica , the family became an important part of the conversation when Donald began considering a comeback.
"The kids were like, 'Dad, we want to see you play,'" she said.

"He missed football," she said.
