Drake Maye shuts down fake revenge narrative after Super Bowl humiliation against Seahawks
New England opens the season against the Seahawks in a highly anticipated rematch.

N ew England Patriots will open the season with a high-profile test: a rematch of Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, September 9 . While the matchup gives New England an opportunity to respond after falling short in the championship game, Drake Maye made it clear that he does not view the Week 1 opener as a revenge game.
The Patriots quarterback said his focus is on starting a new season and credited Seattle for earning the championship last year. Maye downplayed the revenge factor and emphasized that the team is focused on the challenge ahead.
“Drake Maye says this isn’t a revenge game for the Patriots,”.
“They won the big one,” Maye said.
While Maye is keeping his focus on the present, Patriots fans will undoubtedly remember what happened in Super Bowl LX , when the Seahawks dominated New England with a 29-13 victory to capture the title.
Maye enters the new season with enormous expectations after leading the Patriots to the Super Bowl in just his second NFL season. New England made significant moves to strengthen its offense during the offseason, acquiring star wide receiver A.J. Brown in a trade and adding Romeo Doubs in free agency to provide the young quarterback with a stronger group of weapons heading into the 2026-27 campaign .
The matchup against Seattle will also carry historical significance, as it will mark the first time since 2012 that the NFL’s opening official game of the season will be played on a Wednesday.
After facing the Seahawks, Maye and the Patriots will have an unusual early break before returning to action on September 20 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2. The early mini bye will give New England additional time to make adjustments before continuing its pursuit of another championship run.
