A.J. Brown Injury Update: A serious blow for the Patriots after the wide receiver abandoned Jalen Hurts
The Seahawks lost Sam Darnold to injury… and AJ Brown followed him to the sideline in a chaotic Super Bowl rematch.

The Seattle Seahawks already had a major problem on their hands after losing quarterback Sam Darnold to a hip injury. But the reigning Super Bowl champion quarterback was not the only star to leave the highly anticipated rematch against the New England Patriots with an injury.
AJ Brown’s debut with the Patriots was also cut short
The star wide receiver went down early in the third quarter after appearing to injure his right ankle. Brown immediately grabbed the area and was attended to by New England’s medical staff before heading off the field.
Brown did not return for the Patriots’ next offensive possession, and NBC Sports sideline reporter Melissa Stark revealed that the receiver was considered questionable to return.
However, New England later ruled Brown out for the remainder of the game after he underwent X-rays on his injured ankle.
The injury came during Brown’s first game with the Patriots after a blockbuster offseason trade sent him from the Philadelphia Eagles to New England. The Patriots acquired one of the NFL’s most explosive playmakers by sending future draft capital to Philadelphia, including a 2028 first-round pick, hoping he could become the team’s next elite receiving threat following the departure of Stefon Diggs .
Now, Brown has become the first major injury concern of the season for a Patriots team that entered the matchup at Lumen Field relatively healthy under head coach Mike Vrabe l.
New England relied on a physical defense and the running game to slow down Seattle, while the atmosphere inside the stadium changed dramatically after Darnold’s exit. The famous “12s” watched as backup quarterback Drew Lock took over the offense.
The Patriots controlled the battle in the trenches, recording two sacks — including the one that injured Darnold — and making life difficult for Seattle’s offense.
New England’s offense also struggled to find consistency, managing just 154 total yards through three quarters. Quarterback Drake Maye entered the fourth quarter with only 84 passing yards, while Brown finished his night with three receptions for 26 yards before leaving due to injury.
