Mike Vrabel went off on Drake Maye after a costly mistake against the Seattle Seahawks
Drake Maye had a chance to complete the comeback, but one costly mistake sealed the Patriots’ fate against the Seahawks.

The New England Patriots had a chance to get revenge for their Super Bowl loss against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1. Trailing by three points with the clock winding down, New England’s offense was driving for a potential comeback , but in the final seconds, Drake Maye made the mistake that ended the Patriots’ hopes.
The Patriots quarterback threw a pass toward the end zone that was intercepted by Josh Jobe . The Seattle defender made an incredible play, securing the ball while keeping his feet in bounds before being carried out by his own momentum, sealing the Seahawks’ 13-10 victory .
After the game, New England head coach Mike Vrabel was blunt when discussing his team’s final offensive decision.
“We want to be aggressive, not reckless,” Vrabel said after the game.
Maye was far from the level he displayed during the 2025 season in this Super Bowl rematch. The Patriots quarterback finished the game with three interceptions, and including the championship matchup, he has now posted multiple turnovers in two straight games.
“You can’t throw three interceptions. Drake knows that,” Vrabel added.
The Patriots jumped out to an early lead despite their offensive struggles and the injury to wide receiver AJ Brown . New England scored the first touchdown of the season when rookie Eli Raridon caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Maye to make it 7-0.
A field goal in the second half extended the Patriots’ advantage to 10 points, but Seattle responded despite the major setback of losing starting quarterback Sam Darnold, who exited the game with a hip injury during the opening drive.
With Drew Lock taking over, the Seahawks found an unexpected spark. The backup quarterback threw a touchdown, led two scoring drives, and helped Seattle complete the comeback with a Jason Myers field goal with less than six minutes remaining.
Now, the Patriots must quickly clean up their mistakes. New England will look to bounce back in Week 2 when they face the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 20.
