John Harbaugh sparks hope for Jaxson Dart's playoff comeback
Jaxson Dart’s injury has changed everything in New York, leaving the Giants searching for answers at quarterback as Jameis Winston struggles and new options emerge.

After a Week 1 in which they beat the Dallas Cowboys, the season suddenly turned very dark for the New York Giants following the hard blow of Jaxson Dart ’s injury. However, head coach John Harbaugh is keeping a window of hope open: a possible return of the quarterback if the team manages to reach the playoffs.
Giants keep hope alive with Jaxson Dart despite injury
NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo shared an update on the young quarterback’s situation after speaking with Harbaugh.
“HC John Harbaugh confirms QB Jaxson Dart will have surgery and his season is over. Keeps open the possibility for a postseason return should the team get there,” Garafolo posted on X.
Although the outlook looks complicated, the organization has not completely ruled out that Dart could return to lead the offense in a potential postseason. To do so, New York will first have to overcome an adverse scenario and stay in the fight for a playoff berth.
According to The Athletic’s playoff simulator , the Giants’ odds of making the postseason dropped to just 10% after Dart’s injury , while their chances of winning the NFC East sit at 5% .
Jameis Winston raises doubts and Giants explore alternatives
With Jaxson Dart out of action, Jameis Winston took over the New York Giants’ offense , but his first start left more questions than answers. The veteran quarterback had a difficult performance against the Los Angeles Rams, finishing with just 111 passing yards, two sacks taken, and one interception in a 28-6 loss .
Although Winston has a long NFL career and was even selected to the Pro Bowl, his profile does not offer the same level of security when it comes to competing for a postseason spot. His last playoff appearance was in the 2020 season, when he served as Drew Brees ’ backup with the New Orleans Saints .
Faced with uncertainty at the position, the Giants could begin exploring options in the quarterback market. One of the names that has emerged as a possible alternative is JJ McCarthy , currently a backup for the Minnesota Vikings .
The young quarterback lost the starting job battle to Kyler Murray before the start of the season, and a change of scenery could represent an opportunity for him to regain a prominent role. In addition, his arrival would give New York a more solid option while Dart continues his recovery process.
For now, the Giants face the challenge of keeping their season competitive without their young star, while hoping that the possibility of a Jaxson Dart return in the playoffs remains a real option.
