W ill Levis has landed another NFL opportunity, joining the New York Jets ’ practice squad after his difficult departure from the Tennessee Titans and a summer that left him searching for a fresh start. The 27-year-old was released by the Titans in August after losing his place in their plans – despite being selected 33rd overall in the 2023 NFL Draft , after he unexpectedly slipped out of the first round.

Levis became Tennessee ’s starter during his rookie season and soon became the team’s lead quarterback, but concluded his time as the starter after he had thrown 16 interceptions across 21 starts in 2023 and 2024. Becoming a frequent target of criticism for costly turnovers and inconsistent play, shoulder surgery then kept him out in 2025 as his career continued to spiral out of control at the Nissan Stadium . The Titans eventually moved forward with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft , Cam Ward and now the Jets offer Levis a route back into the league as Tom Pelissero reported that New York was signing him to its practice squad. There he is expected to work behind Geno Smith and Cade Klubnik as the third choice and is not likely to be active on gamedays, but he will have the chance to slowly rebuild his confidence.

Jets suffer gut-wrenching loss to Green Bay Packers in Week 2

The Jets entered Week 2 after beating Levis ’ former team, Tennessee , 23-10 and looked to secure a second successive win – but the Green Bay Packers rallied from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit. Green Bay opened the scoring with 9:35 left in the second quarter, when Jordan Love found MarShawn Lloyd for a six-yard touchdown before New York answered with Braelon Allen ’s five-yard run to tie the game. The Jets took control in the third quarter when Geno Smith found Garrett Wilson for a five-yard touchdown before New York ’s defense then forced a fourth-quarter fumble from Lloyd , setting up Jason Sanders ’ 32-yard field goal. Sanders ’ kick put the team ahead 17-7 with 11:04 left as they looked good for the victory, but Love quickly found Christian Watson for a three-yard touchdown and Trey Smack tied the game with a 34-yard field goal. New York won the overtime toss, but the possession quickly collapsed as Smith was sacked twice, Isaiah Williams committed a false start and so the Jets were forced to punt after reaching third-and-30. Green Bay then moved into scoring range behind Love and again opted for the field goal, and Smack converted from 26 yards to complete the comeback as the NFC North side escaped the MetLife Stadium with a 20-17 overtime victory. Love finished 16 of 29 for 145 yards and two touchdowns as he won his first game of the season, whilst Smith went 27 of 41 for 247 yards and a touchdown.
