A.J. Brown gives Jalen Hurts cold shoulder in heated Patriots-Eagles reunion

The former Eagles stars embraced and spoke privately after Thursday’s joint practice

The most telling moment of A.J. Brown ’s first week working opposite the Philadelphia Eagles didn't come during a route, a touchdown or a competitive rep. It came after practice, when he turned around, headed back toward his former teammates and sought out Jalen Hurts .

The two embraced, spoke privately for several minutes and then dapped each other up before leaving the field Thursday, according to multiple reporters covering the joint session between the New England Patriots and Eagles.

It mattered because Brown had acknowledged only a day earlier that he and Hurts hadn't spoken since Philadelphia traded him to New England in June.

Their public comments had already hinted there was no open hostility. Brown said there was still love on his side, while Hurts made clear that his affection for his former teammate had not disappeared.

The post-practice conversation gave those words more weight.

Brown and Hurts more than routine quarterback-receiver pairing

During four seasons together, Brown and Hurts became one of the defining offensive partnerships in Philadelphia.

They helped the Eagles reach two Super Bowls, win one championship and produce some of the strongest offensive seasons in franchise history.

Their relationship also extended beyond football, with Hurts serving as the godfather to Brown ’s daughter. That history is why the silence following the trade drew attention.

The joint practices this week marked the first time the two had been placed on opposite sides, and Brown made himself visible against his former defense with several touchdowns during competitive periods.

Yet the most significant development may have been what happened once the work ended.

Both players trying to move forward

Brown ’s final stretch in Philadelphia wasn't especially smooth.

He finished the Eagles ’ playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers with three catches for 25 yards on seven targets, dropped two passes and had a heated sideline exchange with head coach Nick Sirianni .

His move to New England gave him a fresh start and reunited him with Mike Vrabel , who previously coached him with the Tennessee Titans.

Hurts , meanwhile, is adapting to another offensive reset. Sean Mannion is now calling plays, continuing a pattern of coordinator changes throughout the quarterback’s career.

“Jalen's been awesome,” Mannion said. “I really think he can do anything we ask of him.” The football consequences of Brown ’s departure will take much longer to evaluate.

The personal story appears clearer. After weeks of questions about whether the relationship had gone cold, Brown and Hurts finally spoke face to face.
