Although being placed on injured reserve does not always mean a player will be out for the rest of the season, all signs point to Jalen Hurts not returning to play in 2026 as he continues his recovery after being diagnosed with blood clots.

Since the Philadelphia Eagles turned to Tanner McKee as their starting quarterback in his absence, Hurts has stayed out of the spotlight and has made no public appearances. In addition, Nick Sirianni and other members of the organization had been cautious when speaking about the situation of the team’s offensive leader.

However, on Tuesday , November 3 , a positive update came from former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb , who revealed that he recently had a conversation with Hurts, the Super Bowl MVP .

It was one of the first encouraging reports about the quarterback’s condition since his diagnosis became public.

“I had an opportunity to talk to him a little bit,” McNabb said on Eagles Collective. “He’s doing well. He’s in good spirits.”

Following McNabb’s comments, Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about Hurts’ recovery before Wednesday’s practice.

Sirianni said he remains in constant communication with his quarterback, though he acknowledged he has no new update on the recovery process.

“Of course I’ve seen him, and I have no new update on anything. But of course, I’ve talked to him, and in constant communication with him,” Sirianni told reporters.

“I know he’s resting and recovering. I miss him like crazy, you know, and so yeah, but nothing new on that front. But yeah, I know he’s resting and recovering, and you know we’re all still praying for him and hoping for a speedy recovery.”

With Hurts all but ruled out for the remainder of the season, the Eagles’ priority is ensuring the quarterback has the time he needs to fully recover before considering a return to the field.

In the meantime, Philadelphia is trying to find offensive stability without its franchise player. When Hurts went down, the Eagles had a 2-3 record . Since then they have suffered three consecutive losses and enter Week 9 as underdogs against the New York Giants .
