Sources: Saquon Barkley off the trade block as Eagles protect 2027 future

Philadelphia could move several players before November 10 deadline

The Philadelphia Eagles may be heading toward their most disappointing season in years, but the organization is unwilling to abandon the core that helped deliver its most recent Super Bowl championship.

With the November 10 trade deadline approaching, general manager Howie Roseman faces difficult decisions following a five-game losing streak that has left Philadelphia with a 2-5 record. However, one of the team's most recognizable players is reportedly staying.

Saquon Barkley won't be traded, according to ESPN, despite speculation that Philadelphia could consider moving established players to secure additional draft picks ahead of the 2027 season.

The decision reflects confidence within the organization that its current difficulties represent a temporary setback rather than the beginning of an extended rebuilding process.

Barkley remains under contract for another two years, with approximately $35 million outstanding, and the Eagles reportedly believe he can remain an important part of a competitive roster next season.

That commitment comes despite a frustrating campaign for the running back, whose production has declined significantly while injuries have disrupted both his availability and Philadelphia's offensive consistency.

Roseman 's willingness to explore the trade market is hardly surprising, given Philadelphia's disappointing results and the loss of quarterback Jalen Hurts for the remainder of the season.

However, trading Barkley would represent a major departure from the organization's apparent strategy of retaining its championship foundation while making targeted changes elsewhere.

The 29-year-old became one of the NFL's most dangerous offensive players during his first season in Philadelphia, rushing for 2,005 yards in 2024 and helping the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX.

His 2026 campaign has been considerably more difficult, with back and hamstring injuries restricting him to five appearances, 244 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Those problems intensified against the Dallas Cowboys , when Barkley managed only 10 snaps after aggravating his back while attempting to compensate for an existing hamstring issue.

Despite the setbacks, the Eagles reportedly see greater long-term value in retaining Barkley than accepting draft compensation for a player whose talent remains unquestioned.

Barkley determined to play through injury setbacks

Barkley 's determination to remain on the field has been evident despite Philadelphia's increasingly difficult circumstances, with the running back insisting he does not want to regret missing opportunities to compete.

"One day I'm not going to be playing football," Barkley told reporters Friday. "Whenever that is, I don't want to look back and be like, 'I could've gave it a chance and I didn't.'

"I like playing football. So if I have an opportunity to play, I'm going to try my best to play."

Barkley returned to limited practice Friday and has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's divisional meeting with the Washington Commanders .

His commitment provides some encouragement for an Eagles offense already operating without Hurts , while other important contributors have struggled with injuries.

Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Colts are reportedly willing to entertain offers for Jonathan Taylor , potentially making him the leading alternative for teams seeking an established running back.

Roseman could still move other veterans or acquire players who fit Philadelphia's plans beyond 2026, with the organization reportedly open to both possibilities.

Keeping Barkley , however, sends a clear message about the Eagles ' intentions. Rather than dismantling their championship foundation, they appear focused on finding a way to compete again next season.
