Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Max Iheanachor had plenty to manage as he adjusted to life in the NFL . A daylight burglary at his Pittsburgh residence added a far more unsettling problem.

The offensive tackle’s home in the Mount Washington neighborhood was broken into on August 26, with thieves reportedly escaping with jewelry and designer handbags worth somewhere between $150,000 and $250,000.

The incident happened between approximately 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. after the property had been left secured. When the occupants returned, they found the garage door open and a window smashed.

Investigators believe a rock was thrown through the window to gain entry before the home was ransacked. Police have continued investigating the burglary, but no arrests have been reported.

Preparing for his first NFL action

The timing made the incident particularly disruptive for Iheanachor, who was still working his way back from an injury during his first training camp.

Pittsburgh selected him with the No.21 overall pick in April after an impressive rise through college football.

Iheanachor began at East Los Angeles College before transferring to Arizona State , where he developed into one of the more highly regarded offensive tackles in the country and earned second-team All-Big 12 recognition in 2025.

His first preseason appearance came against Buffalo on August 27, one day after the burglary.

He entered the regular season listed as Pittsburgh’s No.2 right tackle behind Dylan Cook , leaving him with the challenge of earning playing time while also dealing with the aftermath of the break-in.

The Steelers have viewed Iheanachor as a significant piece of their longer-term offensive line plans, but his opening months in the league have already included an injury setback and now a major security incident.

Another NFL player targeted

Iheanachor ’s case comes amid heightened concern around residential burglaries involving professional athletes.

Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Joe Burrow are among the NFL stars whose homes have previously been targeted, while similar incidents have affected athletes in other major American sports.

Authorities have tied some of those earlier burglaries to organized crime groups. There has been no public evidence connecting the theft at Iheanachor’s home to those cases.

Professional athletes can present an unusual target because much of their schedule is publicly available. Games, practices and team travel can make it easier to predict when a player may be away.

That risk is something Iheanachor has been forced to confront almost immediately after entering the league. His immediate football priority remains carving out a role with Pittsburgh.

Away from the field, however, police are still trying to determine who entered his home and disappeared with valuables reportedly worth well into six figures.
