Mike Tomlin gets 100% real about Aaron Rodgers and what the Steelers can achieve
Mike Tomlin reveals why Aaron Rodgers gives the Steelers a real Super Bowl chance.

M ike Tomlin is no longer the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers , but he remains fully confident in the organization he led for nearly two decades and believes the team has the necessary pieces to compete for a championship.
During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show , Tomlin was asked about the Steelers’ chances of reaching the Super Bowl in Mike McCarthy ’s first season as head coach. The former Steelers coach made it clear that he still believes in Pittsburgh’s project and in the impact of Aaron Rodgers as the team’s leader.
“I certainly do,” Tomlin said. “That's the only reason Aaron (Rodgers) comes back. He believes it; I believe it. I don’t think he comes back if he doesn't believe that. They got the bones of having a good unit in all three phases.”
Tomlin also pointed out that the lack of national attention surrounding the Steelers could work in their favor, serving as extra motivation for a team with high expectations.
“Certainly, they are not being talked about compared to how others are being talked about, but that can be a good motivator as well. I think they have high expectations, and I think they should have high expectations.”
The arrival of Aaron Rodgers for another season has raised expectations in Pittsburgh, especially after the Steelers reunited him with Mike McCarthy, the coach who helped him win Super Bowl XLV during their time together with the Green Bay Packers . Now, the two will try to recreate that success in a new chapter with the Steelers.
Tomlin knows this roster better than almost anyone from the outside. He coached many of the Steelers’ current players and was around Rodgers during his first season in Pittsburgh. Now in a different role, he will have the opportunity to evaluate the team from a new perspective.
After stepping down as head coach, Tomlin joined NBC’s Football Night in America as a studio analyst, meaning his opinions on the Steelers will remain part of the conversation throughout the season.
