49ers fan pays top dollar for front row seats in Australia yet can’t see anything happening on the field

Melbourne Cricket Ground wasn’t exactly tailor-made for American football games.

After the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots opened up the 2026 NFL season on Wednesday night, Thursday provided the opportunity for the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers to match Seattle’s 1-0 record while sending a division opponent to 0-1.

The only catch for both teams was that they had to play in the middle of the day in Australia . The Niners took a logical approach, opting to acclimate to the time difference well in advance. The Rams took a completely opposite approach, and it ended with them getting dominated 27-7 by their NFC West rivals.

While it was brutal for Rams fans that made the extremely long trip, it was surely a joyous experience for the 49ers faithful in attendance . That is, as long as they had a set several rows up. The front row was not the place to be - at least not behind the end zones .

“ NinerSurge ”, a 49ers fan based in Santa Ana, California, found that out the hard way. The Niners superfan shared a video from his front row seats at Melbourne Cricket Ground , only to be greeted by hundreds of people replying on social media that it was impossible to see anything.

The reason for that was not only how low the seats were, literally at field level, but also because there were boards behind the end zone obstructing the view . Of course, the stadium is primarily used for cricket and Australian rules football , so there was a bit of a logistical conundrum there.
