Brock Purdy, QB for the 49ers: "Quarterbacks can see about 60% of the time, and the other 40% you really can't"
The San Francisco 49ers signal-caller explains what makes playing the position so difficult, and how to succeed.

Quite literally, no NFL team has gotten off to a better start this season than the San Francisco 49ers . At 2-0 with a league-leading +42 point differential, Kyle Shanahan has his team flying high early in the season.
The best news so far is that they haven't had to rely on quarterback Brock Purdy to carry the offense, since the defense is playing so well. Despite that, Purdy has been incredible through two games, completing 80.4% of his passes for 492 yards and five touchdowns , while also adding 59 yards on the ground .
That completion percentage is what really stands out, though. Purdy's career-high has been 69.4% in a single season - which he's done twice. 80.4% is not really sustainable, and even Purdy knows it, since he's spoken in the past about how hard it is to complete passes as a quarterback in the NFL .
Brock Purdy once explained why diagnosing defensive coverages and schemes is so important for quarterbacks
Last year, Purdy delivered a truly in-depth account of quarterbacking in the league on the Built 4 More podcast . While explaining how difficult playing the position is, Purdy made an eye-opening statement: " Really it's 60-40. You can see about 60% of the time and the other 40% you really can't. "
Purdy then delves into why it's crucial for quarterbacks to be able to diagnose coverages, particularly before the snap . It's another anecdote that fortifies the idea of quarterback being one of the hardest positions in all of sports, not just football.
