The 49ers could ruin Tyreek Hill's reunion with Patrick Mahomes, leaving fans divided
Hill is nearing a possible return from a major knee injury, and several contenders could enter the race if he is medically cleared

Tyreek Hill ’s next team has become one of the NFL ’s more intriguing unresolved questions, and the latest hint from the veteran receiver has only added to the speculation.
“It's almost time to get off the couch and get to work,” Hill wrote on social media Monday, suggesting that his long rehabilitation from a serious knee injury may finally be entering a more advanced stage.
Hill hasn't played since Week 4 of the 2025 season, when he dislocated his knee and tore multiple ligaments, including his ACL. He later underwent another procedure and has spent months rebuilding strength in his left leg.
His agent, Drew Rosenhaus , has previously indicated that October could be a realistic target for a return if Hill continues progressing. That makes the timing of his latest message especially notable as teams begin reassessing their needs after the opening weeks of the season.
San Francisco injuries could change equation
The 49ers have quickly become one of the most interesting possible destinations because their receiving corps has been hit by injuries.
Mike Evans is dealing with a rib problem, while Ricky Pearsall, De'Zhaun Stribling and Demarcus Robinson have also been affected by physical setbacks. That creates a potential opening for an experienced receiver who can threaten defenses vertically.
Hill , if healthy, would bring exactly that kind of skill set. There's no confirmed deal or even public indication that San Francisco has made a formal move, but the fit is easy to understand.
Brock Purdy would gain a proven deep target, while Hill would join a contender with an offense capable of creating space for him. The biggest uncertainty remains whether Hill can still produce the explosiveness that defined his career.
At 32 and coming back from a multi-ligament knee injury, he will likely need to prove that he can accelerate, separate and handle full-speed football work before any team makes a serious commitment.
Kansas City reunion has obvious appeal
The Chiefs remain the most sentimental possibility because of Hill ’s history with Patrick Mahomes .
Hill spent six seasons in Kansas City, won a Super Bowl and became one of the league’s most dangerous receivers before being traded to Miami in 2022. A reunion with Mahomes would immediately become one of the biggest storylines of the season.
Kansas City isn't the only alternative, though. New England, Minnesota, Baltimore and Houston have also been mentioned as teams that could make sense if Hill receives medical clearance and decides to return this season.
That leaves the market wide open. The Chiefs offer familiarity and history, while the 49ers may have the more urgent need if their injury problems continue.
