Simone Biles gets "betrayed" by friend amidst Sophie Cunningham and Riley Gaines drama

The fallout from Cunningham's comments on transgender athletes continues.

She may not have intended it, but Sophie Cunningham truly opened a can of worms with her comments on the transgender athletes in women's sports debate. There's been no shortage of backlash and ensuing debate since her statement on the matter on July 22 .

This is far from the first time notable professional athletes have participated in discourse surrounding the transgender athletes topic, though. Just last summer, Olympics legend Simone Biles got into it with Riley Gaines , a former NCAA swimming All-American who has turned into a right-wing political activist.

During their exchange, Biles called her out as a " sore loser " who bullies young athletes, followed by Gaines saying the gymnast is a " male apologist ". The transgender topic has completely divided opinions within the sports space. And Cunningham has only made everything more polarized as of late.

Sophie Cunningham has divided people, even pro athletes, with her comments

Given the renewed emphasis on the topic, Biles and Gaines are once again in the spotlight . A recent video surfaced where Biles met up with Indiana Fever players, including Cunningham. Gaines over-analyzed the interaction between Biles and Cunningham, saying that the gymnast treated the WNBA player differently due to her comments .

Not letting go of the topic and their past feud, a friend of Gaines has added more fuel to the fire, directly commenting on Biles' interaction with Cunningham and delving into Biles' acquaintance at the game.

She looked less than enthused to see Sophie... The media doesn’t really know, but the guy she was sitting next to at the game posted this online, totally outing her and throwing her under the bus. She was sat next to a guy named Michael Buckley. He posted this on his Instagram story the next day following the game: “I said to Simone last night, notice it’s always the mediocre white women who are complaining about trans athletes, and never the black women who are historically the best athletes. We were fired up. He just absolutely outs her and reinforced her stance on how she feels about men and women’s sports.

That's a lot of projecting about how Biles truly feels, but this probably won't be the last time we hear from both Biles and Gaines on the matter.
