T rinity Rodman made sure there was no confusion about who she was rooting for at the U.S. Open.

The Washington Spirit and U.S. women's national team star turned up at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday to watch boyfriend Ben Shelton take on Hubert Hurkacz , and her outfit quickly became one of the most talked-about moments surrounding the match.

Rodman wore a black crop top carrying a simple but unmistakable message: “I ❤️ my boyfriend.”

The shirt immediately caught attention as cameras repeatedly showed Rodman in the stands while Shelton battled Poland's Hurkacz in the second round.

The 24-year-old soccer star has become a familiar face at Shelton's matches, but Wednesday's outfit took her public support to another level.

Rodman had already attended Shelton's first-round match earlier in the week. For that appearance, she wore a colorful shirt while cheering on the American tennis star as he defeated Tallon Griekspoor. This time, there was no need to guess what Rodman was thinking.

Her appearance also came in the middle of the NWSL season. Rodman's Washington Spirit had played Bay FC on Sunday, and she was scheduled to return to action against the Portland Thorns on Sunday.

That gives her roughly a week between competitive matches, creating an opportunity to spend time in New York and support Shelton during one of tennis' biggest tournaments.

The Spirit are still expected to train during the week, but Rodman has clearly found a way to balance her soccer responsibilities with following Shelton's run in Flushing Meadows. And Shelton gave her plenty to celebrate.

Shelton survives Hurkacz and keeps his US Open run alive

The No. 8-seeded American entered the tournament carrying significant expectations. Shelton is one of the country's leading men's tennis players and has reached the US Open semifinals before, making him one of the strongest American hopes for a deep run. He delivered another important win Wednesday.

Shelton defeated Hurkacz 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(3), 7-5 to reach the third round, surviving a match between two of the biggest servers in the draw. The contest lasted three hours, with both players trading powerful serves and lengthy rallies before Shelton finally broke through in the fourth set.

The victory keeps Shelton's hopes of becoming the first American man to win a Grand Slam singles title since 2003 alive.

That possibility has become a particularly intriguing storyline at this year's US Open. Jannik Sinner withdrew because of injury, while defending champion Carlos Alcaraz entered the tournament after spending roughly four and a half months away from competition because of a wrist problem.

With several major contenders dealing with injuries or questions about their form, Shelton has an opportunity to make a serious push. His path will continue Friday, when he faces Canada's Denis Shapovalov in the third round.

For Rodman , Wednesday's trip to Queens was about more than simply watching a tennis match.

Her relationship with Shelton has been public since 2025, when the pair began drawing attention through social media. Rodman previously explained that she initially reached out to Shelton herself, turning an online interaction into a relationship that quickly became public.

The two have also made a point of supporting each other's careers. Shelton has attended Rodman's soccer matches, including her appearance at the National Bank Open last year, while Rodman has regularly appeared courtside during Shelton's tournaments.

That mutual support has made them one of the more recognizable young sports couples in the United States, with both competing at the highest levels of their respective sports. Their timing is also notable.

Rodman is trying to help Washington navigate the second half of its NWSL campaign, while Shelton is attempting to capitalize on his opportunity at a Grand Slam played in front of a home crowd.

The US Open crowd has responded to Rodman's presence, too. Social-media users quickly embraced the shirt, with fans joking that she had become Shelton's "lucky charm" and praising the couple for supporting one another.

Rodman's presence has also generated wider attention because of her own profile. She is an Olympic gold medalist and one of the most recognizable young players in American soccer, while Shelton has emerged as one of the country's leading tennis stars.

Their relationship therefore brings together two athletes from sports that rarely share the same spotlight. Wednesday's outfit made that connection impossible to miss.

As Shelton fought through Hurkacz's powerful serving and eventually closed out the four-set victory, Rodman watched from the stands and celebrated alongside friends.

The result means she will have another opportunity to wear her support for Shelton when he returns to Arthur Ashe Stadium or another US Open court for his third-round match. For now, the message on her shirt said everything that needed to be said.
