Nearly four months after UFC Freedom 250 , fans are still stunned by the outcome of the main event. Justin Gaethje beating Ilia Topuria wasn’t a shock or anything, but the manner in which the former pounded the latter into submission was stunning.

Topuria’s corner had to step in and call an end to the fight , as Topuria’s face was battered. He was practically unrecognizable, with both of his eyes incredibly swollen. Topuria had to be carted away from the Octagon, and ended up in the hospital.

Gaethje-Topuria fight probably should have been stopped one round earlier

Thankfully, Topuria has made a strong recovery , but it’s unclear when exactly he will fight again. Fans believe it might be sooner than expected, since the UFC this week posted previously unreleased audio from the Octagon during that fight - potentially in a move to start building up hype for a rematch .

The new audio has Topuria claiming that “ I can barely see anything ” in between rounds. The doctor that checked on him opined that Topuria was done, but referee Marc Goddard gave in to Topuria’s wishes and let him continue . Topuria continued to get pummeled in the next round, before his corner had to put a stop to the fight.

Goddard’s handling of the fight has come under a bit of fire as a result of the release of the audio. Of course, it wasn’t an easy situation given the high stakes of the fight, especially since it took place at the White House .
