Unrecognizable Debut: Glamorous UFC newcomer Sofia Montenegro left bloodied in brutal Paris defeat
1. Medical staff rushed in after the Argentine was battered on the ground and choked unconscious in the second round

Argentine newcomer, Sofia Montenegro ’s first UFC appearance turned into a punishing introduction to the promotion as Delphine Benouaich produced a dominant second-round finish in front of her home crowd.
Montenegro arrived at UFC Paris hoping to announce herself on one of the biggest stages in mixed martial arts. Instead, her promotional debut ended with her unconscious on the canvas and her face covered in blood after a brutal sequence of strikes and a rear-naked choke.
Montenegro faced French prospect Delphine Benouaich in the opening bout at Accor Arena, with both women making their first official UFC appearances.
The fight was competitive early on, as Montenegro landed clean shots while Benouaich continually pressed forward and looked to force exchanges at close range. That pressure became increasingly difficult for Montenegro to handle as the contest moved into the second round.
Benouaich absorbed damage of her own, with blood coming from her nose, but refused to slow down. She continued walking Montenegro backward, mixing punches with knees to the body and looking for opportunities to take control.
One right hand changed everything
The decisive moment arrived midway through the second round when Benouaich landed a right hand that sent Montenegro to the canvas. Benouaich immediately followed her opponent down and advanced into mount, where the complexion of the fight changed dramatically.
From top position, the Frenchwoman unleashed a sustained attack of punches and elbows. Montenegro was cut badly as she attempted to protect herself and find a route back to her feet, with blood quickly spreading across both fighters and the canvas.
Montenegro eventually turned away from the punishment, but that created another opening. Benouaich moved onto her back and secured a rear-naked choke.
Montenegro didn't submit and instead lost consciousness, leaving the referee no choice but to intervene at 4:22 of the second round.
Medical officials immediately entered the Octagon to check on the Argentine fighter.
Images taken after the stoppage showed Montenegro ’s face almost completely obscured by blood. Once she had been cleaned up, several significant cuts were visible from the punishment she absorbed during the final stages of the fight.
Benouaich makes emphatic statement
The victory improved Benouaich ’s professional record to 8-2 and delivered a memorable debut in front of a partisan Paris crowd.
She entered the UFC after reaching the semifinals of Season 34 of The Ultimate Fighter and showed why the promotion had been interested in adding her to the roster. Montenegro ’s route to the UFC had been unusual in its own right.
She earned a contract despite losing a narrow split-decision to Jeisla Chaves on Dana White’s Contender Series in late 2025. The fight was competitive enough that UFC officials ultimately decided to sign both women.
Montenegro fell to 6-3 with Saturday’s defeat, although one punishing night won't define a career that is still in its early stages. Her introduction to the UFC, however, could hardly have been more severe.
