Luka Doncic appears to have spared little expense in bringing his Los Angeles Lakers teammates to Slovenia, with the private jet alone potentially costing more than $500,000 for the round trip.

The Lakers traveled from Los Angeles to Ljubljana aboard a Bombardier Global 8000, one of the most luxurious business jets available. Slovenian reports stated that the aircraft carried 14 Lakers players and took roughly 11 to 13 hours to make the journey.

Doncic’s exact spending hasn’t been publicly confirmed, but estimates have offered an idea of the enormous cost. Slovenian outlet Zurnal24 calculated that the one-way flight could have cost approximately €250,000, based on the aircraft and its estimated charter rate.

That would put the potential round-trip transportation bill at around €500,000, although the final amount could vary depending on the actual charter agreement and additional expenses.

The flight is therefore likely to be the largest single expense associated with Doncic’s five-day team trip. However, it’s only part of what the Lakers superstar has planned for his teammates.

Doncic is turning Slovenia into a Lakers bonding experience

The trip isn’t just a vacation as Doncic has organized the visit as a combination of basketball preparation, sightseeing and team bonding, giving his teammates a chance to experience the country where he grew up.

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the Lakers have been scheduled to train during the trip while also visiting some of Doncic’s favorite places. The players have reportedly enjoyed dinners together, received Slovenian-themed gift bags and taken part in recreational activities, including fishing at Lake Bled.

That personal touch could be particularly valuable for a Lakers team entering a new phase. The roster has undergone significant changes, creating a need for players to establish relationships before the regular season begins.

New arrivals such as Walker Kessler, Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton and Ziaire Williams are getting an opportunity to spend time with their teammates outside the normal NBA environment. Rather than waiting until training camp to build chemistry, Doncic has brought the group together thousands of miles from Los Angeles.

The trip also highlights the leadership role the Lakers expect Doncic to embrace. With the organization building increasingly around the Slovenian star, his willingness to host the team in his home country sends a strong message.

The exact overall cost remains unknown. Once the private jet, accommodation, meals, gifts and activities are considered, the total expense could be considerably higher than the flight bill alone. Still, there’s no confirmed figure showing exactly how much Doncic personally paid.

Whatever the final number turns out to be, Doncic is using his own connection to Slovenia to help bring a revamped Lakers roster closer together before the pressure of the NBA season arrives.
