Lakers insider floats shocking Nikola Jokic-Luka Doncic superteam possibility
Lakers could have their eyes on Nikola Jokic if Denver's championship plans fall apart

The Los Angeles Lakers could have their sights on an incredible future pairing of Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic.
A potential Lakers pursuit of the Denver Nuggets superstar remains highly speculative, but recent developments have given the idea fresh momentum.
Denver's decision to send Peyton Watson to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a sign-and-trade has raised eyebrows around the NBA.
Watson , who was viewed as one of the Nuggets' most promising young players, agreed to a four-year, $88 million contract with Cleveland. Denver received an unprotected 2031 first-round pick and a 2032 second-round selection in the deal.
For a Nuggets team built around a 31-year-old three-time MVP, moving a young player with significant upside naturally raises questions.
Jokic remains at the heart of Denver's championship hopes and continues to perform at an extraordinary level. Last season, he averaged 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists while earning another All-NBA First Team selection.
Those circumstances have apparently caught the attention of Lakers insider Anthony Irwin. He suggested that once Los Angeles' ownership situation is settled, the organization could become "dead-set" on Denver and Jokic . That doesn't mean a trade is coming, but it suggests the Lakers could be monitoring the situation closely.
“All I'll say is if/when the Lakers get their ownership situation figured out, a lot of the organization's eyes are going to be dead-set on Denver,” Irwin wrote on X.
Jokic-Doncic pairing could redefine Lakers' future
The possibility becomes even more intriguing because Jokic and Doncic have a well-known friendship. The two superstars have shared plenty of memorable moments, and their relationship has been one of the NBA's most entertaining off-court connections.
Their chemistry could make the prospect of playing together particularly appealing.
Los Angeles has already made Doncic the centerpiece of its future. The Lakers signed him to a three-year, $165 million extension in 2025, showing that the franchise is committed to building a championship contender around him. Doncic has also made it clear that he doesn't want to spend years waiting for the right roster to come together.
Jokic's situation is very different. The Nuggets superstar has repeatedly expressed his desire to remain in Denver and has indicated that he'd like to spend his career with the franchise.
He's also expected to have an opportunity to negotiate a massive extension next summer, which would give Denver another chance to lock its cornerstone into the future.
Still, circumstances can change quickly in the NBA. If Denver struggles again and can't surround Jokic with enough quality talent, speculation about his future could become considerably louder. The Nuggets' decision to move Watson could become more significant if their roster fails to meet expectations.
That would create an opportunity worth exploring for the Lakers. Pairing Jokic with Doncic would give Los Angeles two of the game's most gifted offensive engines.
Both can score at all three levels, manipulate defenses and create high-quality opportunities for teammates. Adding Austin Reaves to that foundation would give the Lakers another versatile creator and potentially form a devastating Big Three.
For now, though, a Jokic -to-Los Angeles move is a dream scenario rather than an imminent possibility. Jokic remains a Nugget, and Denver controls the situation. But if the franchise's championship window begins to close, the Lakers could be waiting in the wings.
