Boxes of blue Nike Caitlin 1s arrived for the Zionsville Community High School girls’ basketball team, and the players’ reaction was immediate : screams, hugs, jumping and smiles as they opened their new sneakers. The team shared a video of the unboxing on X and thanked both Nike and Caitlin Clark.

The moment offered a glimpse of what Clark’s signature shoe means to young players in Indiana. For the team, the Caitlin 1s weren’t just another pair of basketball sneakers. They came from the state’s biggest basketball star and carried the details of a shoe built around her game.

The Caitlin 1s were designed around Clark’s speed and range

Nike released Clark’s first signature shoe globally on Oct. 1, with two launch colorways: Caitlin Blue and Warning Code Yellow. Adult pairs retailed for $140. The design includes a lightweight Nike Opticast upper, a responsive Air Zoom Turbo unit in the forefoot and Cushlon foam for cushioning and control.

The personal touches connect the shoe to Clark’s identity and playing style. Its upper features her “CC” logo and references to her No. 22, while the outsole carries messages including “Shoot More Threes” and “From Anywhere.” Nike says the design was developed around the quick first step, step-back and shot release Clark wanted to support.

The Caitlin 1 launch quickly became a major moment for Nike. CNBC reported that the shoes nearly sold out on Nike.com within two hours of their U.S. debut, with only sizes above 15 left about an hour after they went on sale.

Nike CEO Elliott Hill later called it the company’s largest women’s signature shoe launch and said it was available in 5,000 stores twice the average for a Nike Basketball signature release.

Clark’s Indiana Fever teammates had received blue pairs before the public launch. She gave them the unreleased shoes after returning from the U.S. women’s basketball team’s gold-medal run at the FIBA Women’s World Cup.

The Zionsville gift carried that same excitement to a group of young Indiana players, who got to experience the Caitlin 1 as fans and hoopers.

For Nike, the Zionsville unboxing was the kind of product showcase a polished ad can’t quite reproduce : a locker room full of young athletes celebrating a shoe they were eager to wear. Their post thanked both the brand and Clark, but the players’ joy did the talking.
