Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has revealed that she's taking additional steps to protect herself, confirming that she's hired a private security team to accompany her around the clock amid growing concerns about unwanted attention.

The 30-year-old guard discussed the decision on her No Hesitation podcast, explaining that her rising profile has dramatically changed her everyday experiences. While she was previously recognised mainly in certain locations, her growing popularity means she's now attracting attention wherever she goes.

Cunningham admitted that the situation has made ordinary activities increasingly difficult, prompting her to arrange constant personal protection.

“In certain places, people kind of knew who I was and I couldn't really go anywhere,” said Cunningham .

“Now it doesn't matter what state, what city, it's everywhere. And so I've definitely hired security and they're going to start traveling with me actually next week, 24/7. And so that's a little different.

“But yeah, it just kind of stops you from your regular routine. You have to find a balance of getting away and making sure that you're filling up your own cup and doing what you're supposed to.

“So when you're out, you're able to give people your best energy too because that's super important to me. It's just being nice and being positive and treating people with how you wish I could be treated.”

Her announcement follows concerning comments about stalking incidents involving WNBA players. During an appearance on Theo Von's podcast last month, Cunningham revealed that she believed approximately 20 individuals were being monitored by the FBI in connection with potential threats against her.

The FBI hasn't publicly confirmed the reported number, meaning the figure remains based on Cunningham's own account.

One individual connected to the allegations is Kevin Singh , who is currently being held in an Indiana detention center while facing charges including felony stalking, felony intimidation and misdemeanor harassment.

Singh has pleaded not guilty, and the allegations haven't been proven in court.

Cunningham previously discussed the frightening nature of unwanted attention, explaining that stalking is an unfortunate reality for some professional basketball players. She also revealed that one individual had already been taken into custody.

Interestingly, the Fever guard owns a pet donkey named Kevin , prompting her to jokingly question whether she should change the animal's name following the revelation about the alleged stalker.

Cunningham's growing public profile has coincided with an eventful period in her career. Her performances alongside Caitlin Clark in Indiana have helped establish her as a recognizable WNBA personality, while her outspoken views have also generated considerable discussion.

Earlier this year, she attracted attention following comments about transgender athletes competing in women's sports. Her position sparked debate across the basketball community and brought additional scrutiny to her public appearances.

Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounds her professional future as the 2026 WNBA offseason begins. Cunningham is approaching free agency, leaving questions about whether she'll return to Indiana for another season.

Her immediate priority appears to be personal safety. By arranging round-the-clock protection, Cunningham hopes to regain some normality while continuing her basketball career and public engagements.
