The death of Dolly Parton this past Tuesday at the age of 80 leaves behind a career full of successes , but also a mystery that will remain hidden for nearly two more decades . The American artist recorded a secret song that will stay concealed until 2045, the year in which she would have turned 99 .

The story dates back to 2015, when Parton inaugurated Dollywood's DreamMore Resort complex in Tennessee. As part of a special initiative, she wrote and recorded an unreleased song that was stored in a wooden box along with a CD player , with instructions to not open it until 30 years later .

The singer always acknowledged that that decision cost her more than she imagined. "It's like burying one of my children," she even said about a song no one has heard and whose title she never revealed either. As the years went by, she confessed in several interviews that she would like to get it back because she considered it "a very good song".

When she accepted the challenge, many told her she probably wouldn’t live to hear it . Her response became famous over time: "Maybe I will. I’ll be 99 years old. I’ve seen people live longer than that" .

Now, after her death, that promise takes on a different dimension . Unless the established plans are changed, the song will remain under lock and key until 2045, becoming one of the most curious legacies and enigmatic ones left by the queen of country.
