The Central Bank of Ireland has launched a commemorative silver coin to honor U2 for their 50-year career . This piece pays tribute to Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. , recognizing their historic impact on global rock. Its design incorporates symbols from their discography and national identity .

With this limited-edition release, the band joins the select group of cultural figures who have been immortalized on the currency of their native country.

It all began when Larry Mullen Jr. placed an ad at his school in Dublin in 1976 looking for musicians , giving rise to the legendary rock band, and today it is one of the most notable bands that music has given to the world.

The coin has legal tender status throughout the eurozone, but in addition this coin is primarily designed in special formats for fans and numismatic collectors . It comes presented in a collectible card (coincard). A mintage of 150,000 units has been produced at an official price of 14.95 euros. There is another high-quality silver version presented in a booklet-style case. It has an exclusive mintage of only 5,000 pieces at an official price of 39.95 euros.

The coin reproduces the silhouette and the images of the four traditional members of U2: Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. , accompanied by the classic silver harp representative of Ireland's identity.

Bono and U2's social commitment

The stature of U2 has also transcended the musical sphere, especially through Bono's activism. The singer has made the fight against extreme poverty, AIDS, and inequality a prominent part of his public activity and has participated for decades in campaigns by organizations such as Amnesty International.
